The state of Michigan was locked down for months, and then in March it started opening up in the midst of a new surge of coronavirus cases. Michigan's experience, and other outbreaks across the country involving new foreign strains, once more raise questions and debates about whether we should close our borders to travelers from some countries, impose new restrictions in some areas, or both. But more on those questions in a minute. Unfortunately, when you suddenly give people their treasured freedom back, they are more likely to take fewer precautions than if you reopened gradually. Michael D'Antonio is the author of the book "Never Enough: Donald Trump and the Pursuit of Success" and co-author, with Peter Eisner, of the book "The Shadow President, The Truth About Mike Pence." The opinions expressed in this commentary are his own. View more opinion on CNN. (CNN) With so many Trump-related books already on the shelf, publishing houses have reached the point where perhaps the only author still worth hearing from would be the fly that landed on former Vice President Mike Pence's head during his debate with now Vice President Kamala Harris. Absent the fly, Simon & Schuster has signed their next-best option: Pence . The question now, is whether his story will create any buzz. Michael D'Antonio Pence, who was drafted as the pious counterweight to then-candidate Donald Trump, is one of the few major figures who stayed on the job for all four years -- no small feat, considering the high turnover in Trump's administration. CO2 tax support is based in myth: Taxing essential energy harms more than it helps
Recent media reports lit up with news that the oil and gas industry has agreed to endorse a tax on carbon dioxide emissions. Several weeks ago, the American Petroleum Institute (API), one of the nation’s largest oil and gas trade associations, voted to support the tax as a replacement for current greenhouse gas regulations. Readers should realize that the API’s support for the carbon tax is based on at least four big myths. First, this support for the CO2 tax is based on the questionable notion that American society requires some regulatory motivation to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. It clearly doesn’t. Even under the Trump administration’s push for energy dominance, the U.S. reduced greenhouse gas (GHG) emission s. While GHG emissions are expected to increase slightly … [Read more...] about CO2 tax support is based in myth: Taxing essential energy harms more than it helps
