It was a severe Friday afternoon for President Joe Biden’s Office of Management and Budget nominee, Neera Tanden, whose nomination looks to be sinking in the quagmire of Democrat-controlled Senate politics. Her unraveling nomination may not only be due to a moderate democrat like Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who has said he will be a “no” vote, but also because Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), representing the most ideological members as chairman of the nominating committee, was publicly attacked by the nominee. Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) said she met with Neera Tanden, President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), on Monday but that she hadn’t made a decision on whether to support her confirmation. “I met with her today. We had a sit-down meeting, which was good,” Murkowski told reporters, noting the meeting had just finished. Murkowski acknowledged she hasn’t made a decision and was still doing her “assessment.” She further commented that she had “some more follow-up questions,” but did not specify them. The Alaska Republican raised concerns in the meeting over Tanden’s tweets attacking her for being “high on her own supply” in regards to holding certain tax policies. President-elect Joe Biden’s pick to run his Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Neera Tanden, has reportedly spent nearly a decade running a Washington think tank entangled with foreign and corporate interests. Tanden helped found the Center for American Progress (CAP) in 2003 and has been its president and CEO since 2011. She’s been a key player in raising the top liberal think tank’s budget of up to $50 million per year, the Washington Post reported Saturday . Her appointment to head the OMB is attracting criticism from some due the relationship she’s developed with corporate donors during her time running CAP , according to the Post. The OMB carries out the federal government’s spending plan and has a key role in the development of fiscal, economic and regulatory policy, which is why critics have said Tanden has too many conflicts of interest to take the office. The Senate Homeland Security Committee postponed a second confirmation hearing for Neera Tanden, an indication that her nomination is likely to fail. Tanden, President Joe Biden’s pick to lead the Office of Management and Budget, had become increasingly unlikely to be confirmed after West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin said that he would oppose her, citing her controversial Twitter feed that included personal insults against lawmakers. Tanden also tweeted “Believe women, unless it doesn’t work for your ambition,” in support of Elizabeth Warren’s claim that Bernie Sanders said a woman could not become president. Tanden also repeatedly dismissed Biden accuser Tara Reade’s allegations.
