NEW ORLEANS – Thunder guard Russell Westbrook is rarely caught off guard in postgame media scums, but the news that he had become the franchise all-time leading scorer Thursday did the trick.Westbrook had been staring at the ground, but with that news he picked up his head and raised his eyebrows.“I didn’t even know I was close, honestly,” he said. “That’s crazy, man, honestly.” Westbrook paced the Thunder with 44 points in the OKC’s 131-122 loss to the Pelicans Thursday. He also recorded 14 rebounds and 11 assists to extend his NBA-record triple-double streak to 11 games. But he knew that. What he didn’t know was that he had passed Gary Payton (18,207 points) on the Thunder and SuperSonics franchise’s all-time list. By the end of Thursday night, Westbrook was up to 18,247 career points, all with the Thunder.“I’m just truly thankful and humbled by the accomplishment,” Westbrook said. … [Read more...] about Thunder: Russell Westbrook passes Gary Payton to become franchise all-time leading scorer

When Shayok finished answering the last question, he walked back into the gym and as he got to the door he said, “Nobody better have taken my hoop.” Shayok was in the gym since the early morning shooting on that one basket. Shayok is the Big 12’s leading scorer, averaging 20.1 points while shooting 52 percent from the field, 38 percent from 3-point range and 86 percent from the free-throw line. He’s the only player in the power six conferences to shoot 50-38-85.
