DALLAS ( CBSDFW.COM ) – Stimulus checks have already been distributed to 85 percent of American households, in President Biden’s estimation. But extra money is now arriving for many, money they may not have expected. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is sending out catch-up payments, also known as “plus-up” payments, to anyone whose third payment was less than they are eligible for. Nearly 700,000 of these payments, valued around $1.2 billion, went out last week. Additional disbursements will continue on a weekly basis for the foreseeable future. Plus-up payments do not apply to the first two rounds of stimulus. The IRS used the latest tax return information on file to calculate the amount of the third stimulus check. For people who had not yet completed their 2020 taxes, that was still their 2019 tax return. Many people had a much lower income in 2020, given the pandemic shutdowns and record unemployment. Others welcomed a new member to the family. READ MORE: Child Tax … [Read more...] about Stimulus Check Update: Can You Expect A Plus-Up Payment?

Washington (CNN) Republican members of Congress , Fox News personalities and other prominent right-wing figures are falsely claiming that President Joe Biden is trying to force Americans to eat far less red meat. "Joe Biden's climate plan includes cutting 90% of red meat from our diets by 2030. They want to limit us to about four pounds a year. Why doesn't Joe stay out of my kitchen?" Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert wrote on Twitter on Saturday. No fewer than five Fox News or Fox Business personalities told versions of the scare story on the air starting Friday morning. For example, Fox News host Jesse Watters said Saturday that "Americans are going to have to cut their red meat consumption by 90% in order to reduce emissions to hit Biden's target. That means you're only allowed to eat four pounds of red meat a year. That adds up to a burger a month. That's it." In a particularly odd moment on Twitter on Sunday, two Republican governors, Greg … [Read more...] about Fact check: No, Biden is not trying to force Americans to eat less red meat

A woman in Central Florida who ran for the state Senate as an independent candidate was reportedly making plans to move to Sweden well before the November 2020 election was underway. According to an investigation by the Miami Herald, McClatchy and the Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter, the campaign of 35-year-old Jestine Iannotti, who now lives in a suburb of the Swedish capital of Stockholm, was fueled by advertisements from dark money political groups. The Texas House of Representatives is currently considering a comprehensive election integrity bill that would, among other things, place executive and legislative checks and balances on the private funding of the administration of the state’s electoral procedures. The 2020 general election in Texas saw $36 million worth of unfettered private funding of election administration in a number of counties in the state from non-profit organizations who were, in turn, financed by Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan. SB 7 was passed by the Texas State Senate earlier this month and has been under consideration in the Elections Committee of the Texas House of Representatives since April 12 . The 38-page SB 7 addresses a number of election integrity issues, among them the problems associated with the private funding of election administration. The bill addresses private funding of election administration as follows: Sec.A81.032.
