JOLIET, IL —A total of 11 retirees at the Joliet Police Department received a combined $657,270 for cashing out their nest eggs of unused vacation, sick leave banks and comp time overages in 2019. At Joliet's Fire Department, 10 retirees received a combined $496,790 in severance payouts. A total of nine city workers received a combined $262,915 in severance payouts this year. NFL ICYMI: All ends well for Cowboys after flip over toss
It was the debate about da boot. Like almost everything else in Sunday's game, it worked out just fine for the Cowboys. Officials on the field and at the league offices reviewed the episode and decided Prescott had, in fact, said “defer.” And so, the Cowboys ended up getting the ball to start the second half. No harm, no foul and, frankly, the question of who would receive the second-half kickoff — not revealed to the viewing public until the teams came out to start the third quarter — was pretty much all that passed for drama in this one. In this key battle between playoff contenders, the Cowboys won 44-21, and had ample opportunity to kick off … [Read more...] about NFL ICYMI: All ends well for Cowboys after flip over toss
Naval Academy investigating possible “white power” hand gestures flashed before Army-Navy football game
The U.S. Naval Academy has appointed an officer to conduct an internal investigation into possible “white power” hand gestures flashed by students during a broadcast before the Army-Navy football game, an academy spokeswoman said Sunday. “Based on findings of the investigation, those involved will be held appropriately accountable,” Cmdr. Alana Garas, a spokeswoman for the academy in Annapolis, Maryland, said via email. “It would be inappropriate to speculate any further while we are conducting this investigation.” Lt. Col. Chris Ophardt, a spokesman for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York, said officials there were also looking into the matter. “At this time we do not know the intent of the cadets,” he said. West Point cadets and Naval Academy midshipmen in the stands appeared to display the hand sign during an ESPN broadcast segment. The gesture is similar to the one used to indicate “OK,” with the thumb and … [Read more...] about Naval Academy investigating possible “white power” hand gestures flashed before Army-Navy football game
