NEW YORK — Don Imus, the cantankerous radio host whose career was temporarily derailed when he made racist and sexist remarks, is retiring from his morning show. WABC-AM says Imus' last morning drive time show on New York-based station will be March 29. On Twitter, the show announced : "Turn out the lights... the party's over." In 2007, Imus was fired by CBS Radio and MSNBC for using a racial slur to talk about the Rutgers women's basketball team. He later apologized and got a new gig a few months later. It’s an exciting premiere night for Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, as the new crime-solving film “Morning Show Mystery: Mortal Mishaps,” starring Holly Robinson Peete and Rick Fox, will makes its debut. The movie is an adaptation of TV personality Al Roker’s novel “The Morning Show Murders,” though Hallmark has changed the lead character to be a female lead instead, to be played by Peete. After playing a supporting character in Hallmark Channel’s holiday flicks “Angel of Christmas” in 2015 and “Christmas in Evergreen” in 2017, Peete is ready to head out on her own and take the lead in her new Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie. JP, co-host of the popular Power Morning Show on 96.5 FM, has departed the Miami radio station. On his Instagram account, the morning personality, whose real name is Yojhans Perez, shared the news with social media followers. “I have learned so much and have had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people at Power 96, I would like to thank each and everyone of you at Power 96 for an amazing 12 years…’’ wrote the West Palm Beach resident. “As of last Friday I have to turn the page on my next chapter in radio and I hope to be back ‘On Air’ before you have time to really miss me.’’ Since November 2016, JP and Lucy Lopez have hosted the morning program from 6 to 10 a.m. weekdays as a duo at the Miami Gardens station where they delivered strong ratings among listeners ages 18 to 49 in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami radio market. Former morning man Carson Daly left the station in July, and the station has been without an “official” morning show since Daly left. Numerous observers speculated that perhaps Amp would simply go without. Putting those rumors to rest, Amp announced last week that Edgar Sotelo and Brian Moote would have wake-up duties beginning in February, though no exact date was given. Sotelo was last heard on Amp Radio in New York, where he hosted mornings until that station changed to alternative in November. Moote was part of WWWQ/Atlanta’s “The Bert Show.” Both face formidable competition from a variety of stations such as Alt 98.7’s The Woody Show, KLOS’s (95.5 FM)) Heidi, Frosty and Frank, and Amp’s own sister station KROQ’s Kevin and Bean.
