Season. Long.On the surface, a soccer team that’s still rotating its starting lineup and formation in the middle of a league campaign doesn’t have the look of a state champion. Especially when that same team regularly played eight or nine freshmen. As the old sports cliche goes, you want to be playing your best at the end of the season. You want to peak at the right time, ideally the postseason.Bryan Searle, a longtime soccer coach at the club level and the fifth-year coach of the Morgan Trojans, got his team to peak at the right time in 2018.The Trojans finished second in Region 13, losing … [Read more...] about Coach of the Year: Morgan’s Bryan Searle guided young team to another title
In the recorded history of high school volleyball in Utah, only five schools have gone on a streak of at least four straight state championships. Weber High did it from 1981-84, Rich High did it twice (1992-97, 1999-2006), Snow Canyon won five from 2006-10 and San Juan also won five from 2003-07.From 1999-2002, so did the Morgan Trojans. If they win the 3A state championship this year, they'll join the Rich Rebels as one of two schools to have multiple instances of four straight state titles. And at this point, Morgan is running out of records to set as a team. The 3A state volleyball tournament begins Wednesday at Utah Valley University in Orem when Morgan meets Richfield at 5:30 p.m. — and everyone is eyeing the three-time defending champion Trojans as the team to beat. Just like always. But is it really that cut-and-dry this year? The Trojans won yet another region title without losing a region match, but they had two good matches with South Summit, the second-place team in … [Read more...] about State volleyball preview: Can Morgan make it four in a row?

HERRIMAN — Trek Loveridge still had crumb rubber beads from the artificial turf on his forehead, he was walking with bare feet and carrying a trophy. All around him were the red, splotchy faces of his Morgan Trojans soccer teammates, unable to hold their emotions after 97 minutes of the most taxing, emotional game of their season and quite possibly their high school career. Their hearts were broken by Joe Paul. Paul scored a 97th-minute golden-goal winner on a counter attack as Judge Memorial beat Morgan 1-0 in the 3A soccer state championship game Saturday at the brand-new Zions Bank Stadium at Real Salt Lake Academy in Herriman.
