Evidently it is way too short a time for the four horses of Ignorance, Bigotry, Race, and Economic Inequality to be defeated by a crippled old war horse named Knowledge. Evidently the arc of history, bending by science and philosophy, is slow to respond to four powerful horses. We are still confounded by a question that should have been resolved a century ago: Who is recognized as fully human? We may be slowly making some inroads. At least the name is. The venerable reality show returns at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, KPIX, with a “David vs. Goliath” theme. As usual, there will be two tribes of 10 players. Those on the David tribe are people who have overcome adversity in their lives. They’ll be facing Team Goliath, made up of people who have capitalized on their individual advantages in a classic battle of the underdogs against the favorites. The twist this season is that every Goliath has an Achilles heel, while every David has a secret weapon. Is it just us hoping for super powers, like the ability to fly or start fires with their minds? We’ll just have to wait to see what secrets are revealed. BUTTE — It took some time for Sam Rauch to get back to the locker room to have his wounds tended to.After winning the Sparta Combat League lightweight Muay Thai title Saturday night at the Butte Civic Center, Rauch made time for the thousands that came out to watch him fight.He took pictures with every man, woman and child who approached him. He handed his red leather title belt off to the kids, and worked a smile despite the blood still forming above his eye and in his nose.Rauch suffered a brutal cut in the first round of his fight against Canada’s Kolton Menzak, but worked through its incessant reopening to win the final three rounds and claim a world title in his hometown.In the locker room, Rauch fielded questions from reporters while a team poked and prodded him.
