The Metro Council will weigh this week whether to send voters a $652.8 million bond measure intended to help create thousands of affordable homes. If approved by the regional government council, the measure would go to voters in November. It would 24 cents per $1,000 of assessed value, or $60 a year for the owner of a home with an assessed value of $250,000. The amount is a bigger ask than the $500 million bond floated last year or the $517 million bond Metro officials were discussing as recently as this month. The regional government said the larger bond could go farther in closing the gap between the need for affordable housing and the number of available units. "We heard loud and clear from stakeholders and the community that they wanted to see a larger impact than had first been proposed," said Andy Shaw, Metro's director of government affairs. There were also concerns among advisers to Metro that the original bond framework underestimated the costs of building and maintaining … [Read more...] about Metro poised to refer $652.8 million housing bond to voters

Bella Thorne bought her house in an unorthodox way. Phillip Faraone/Getty Images Pocketing an insane amount of cash for sponsored content is nothing new for celebrities. Selena Gomez reportedly nets $550,000 for a single photo on Instagram, and you’ve definitely seen SugarBearHair or #FitTea posts from every member of the Kardashian family.Certain stars get better #spon than others—some score a #JetLuxeLife private plane ride (ahem, Scott Disick), while others simply get a few pairs of Diff sunglasses. And while most stars tend to shy away from discussing the money they make from these ads, Bella Thorne is very here for it.The actress recently let the world know that she was able to buy a $2 million house largely due to the money she makes from Instagram. In a new 17-minute mini-documentary from Vogue and Broadly, the former Disney Channel star disclosed that she can rake in $65,000 for a single “grid” post, while an Instagram Story … [Read more...] about Here’s How Bella Thorne Bought a $2 Million House Through Instagram
Although media reports have called the $500 million property that real estate investor and film producer Nile Niami is developing a "home," that doesn't really do it justice. While it does have a 74,000-square-foot main residence, it also includes three smaller residences on the four-acre property in Los Angeles' exclusive Bel Air neighborhood. The property features sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean along with 5,000-square foot master bedroom, a "Monaco-style casino" and four swimming pools. Bloomberg News, which first reported this story, calls it "one of the biggest homes in U.S. history." In an interview with CBSMoneyWatch, Niami argued that the asking price on a square-foot basis is competitive with smaller luxury homes in the area. He purchased the hilltop property two years ago and doesn't have a buyer lined up yet, though "we do have a couple of people who have been circling," he said. He added that he thinks the Southern California real estate market is undervalued. "There … [Read more...] about All this $500 million “house” needs is a buyer
Last Updated Jun 25, 2009 3:00 PM EDT Recently, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and his wife Jenny put their lovely 4,400 square foot beach house on Sullivan's Island up for sale. Asking price: $3.5 million. According to web reports, the house has six bedrooms, five baths, and from the photos posted online looks nice enough from the inside. A sales brochure reportedly describes the house as "a great value for true oceanfront property." The story goes that Gov. and Mrs. Sanford had decided to build their dream home on acreage they own in South Carolina's Low Country. It's hard to imagine how much dreamier you can get than a house on the ocean, but perhaps they were worried about hurricanes. Anyway, no one apparently thought much about the house Gov. Sanford and his wife wanted to live in until this week, when news broke that the Governor had been having an affair with a woman from Argentina, a fact he said he confessed to his wife five months ago. In the wake of the news this week, it … [Read more...] about Who Wants to Buy Gov. Mark Sanford’s $3.5 Million House?
A homeowner who tried to flog her home for £3.7 million by raffling it online bought the property three years ago from the council and paid just £360,000. Renu Qadri, who lives in the posh five-bedroom house in Blackheath, was selling raffle tickets for £5 a pop. She had an aim of selling 750,000 tickets - adding up to £3.75 million in total by November this year. The winner of the raffle was promised the property, including some of the furniture and £12,000 of “lead crystal chandeliers”, as a prize. But the competition was shut down on Thursday after Greenwich council warned it could break rules set by the Gambling Commission. The owner, who is believed to have listed at the property since 2002, bought it under the Government’s right-to-buy scheme three years ago, according to Land Registry documents obtained by the Daily Telegraph. It is understood that the property was valued around £460,000 at the time but records show that … [Read more...] about Homeowner who tried to raffle £3.7 million house bought it from the council three years ago for just £360,000
