Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo blasted the “elites” during his speech at CPAC Saturday, defending the “America First” agenda by declaring, “We were willing to challenge the elites.” “I’m proud of our fight. And I’m proud of our accomplishments. We have truly upended the status quo,” Pompeo declared to a standing ovation. “We’ve been called clowns, deplorables, ignorant, and rednecks; we’ve been called the evil resistance” by the elites. He asked, “I hear President Biden saying America is back. Back to what?” Pompeo then listed several domestic accomplishments of the Trump administration, emphasizing the ability of “American workers to make a good wage,” and the creation of American energy jobs while demanding “fair and reciprocal trade.” Pompeo seemed most pleased with his foreign policy successes, rattling off “staying out of wars,” moving the embassy to Jerusalem, consummating the Abraham Accords, and bringing hostages back to the United States. “America first means … [Read more...] about Mike Pompeo at CPAC: ‘We Were Willing to Challenge the Elites’

The Memo: CPAC fires starting gun on 2024
Auditions for the 2024 Republican nomination have begun — and several big names are trying out for the role of the future Donald Trump. There’s one problem, however. The former president may not be ready to cede the stage to an understudy. Trump will give the keynote speech Sunday afternoon at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which this year is being held in Orlando, Fla. The conference began in earnest on Friday. ADVERTISEMENT Trump’s speech will be his most high-profile public engagement since leaving office after having been impeached for a second time following the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. He is widely expected to win a straw poll conducted among CPAC attendees earlier Sunday. Trump has said nothing definite about running again. But even his detractors acknowledge he would be the strong favorite for the GOP nomination — even as those skeptics are also adamant he would lose a general election. “Trump will be the nominee if he decides … [Read more...] about The Memo: CPAC fires starting gun on 2024

CPAC Speakers: GOP ‘Civil War’ Won by Trump
The speakers at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) believe former President Donald Trump is the leader of the conservative movement. The media, though, has written about the Republican Party and the “deep divisions over the extent to which it should embrace Trump after losing the White House and both chambers of Congress.” A headline in the Los Angeles Times reads , “The GOP’s civil war is just beginning, and the fighting will get worse before it gets better.” But the attendees at CPAC disagree. Nearly every noteworthy speaker has supported Trump’s presidency or outright praised his “American First” agenda. “Donald J. Trump ain’t going anywhere,” said Texas Sen.
