Artist Laleh Mehran likes to eavesdrop on people as they look at her art piece “Entropic System.” The drawing apparatus will begin tracing a pattern when someone enters its room, detecting people with a motion sensor. The pattern will change whenever it senses someone else in the room. Mehran said she’s overheard people appreciate the changing patterns while others grow frustrated when the pattern they have been watching suddenly changes. She’s even overheard some who will purposely disrupt the pattern. “People get mischievous,” she said. Mehran, a University of Denver art professor who originally hails from Iran, displays this piece and another as part of the “Presence: Reflections on the Middle East,” exhibit put on by Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Center for Visual Art, 965 Santa Fe Drive.
