The Homer Township Fire Protection District will be purchasing new CPR/AED (lifesaving) equipment for community training thanks to a grant from Illinois American Water. The Illinois American Water Firefighter Grant Program provides financial assistance to fire and emergency organizations serving communities in its service areas. The program awards grants to provide personal protective gear, communications equipment, firefighting tools, water handling equipment, training materials and classroom programs. The grant winners were announced in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 6 – 12, 2019, to raise awareness about the importance of fire prevention and emergency planning. This year, over $88,000 will be shared by 90 Illinois fire departments through the grant program. Since the program was created in 2010, over 590 grants totaling over $582,000 have been awarded. LOCKPORT, IL — Video gaming has been a much debated topic since the Video Gaming Act was passed in Illinois in 2009. There are thousands of video gaming terminals across the state, and there are 85 terminals in Lockport alone.The most recent revenue data from the Illinois Gaming Board is from October. According to the gaming board, from January to October, $48,020,542.26 was the amount "played" or gambled in Lockport. However, the total amount of funds in, or the money people actually put in the machines, was $14,862,672.Overall, the terminals had a net terminal income of $3,866,969.24 with $1,013,468.52 going to the state and $193,348.96 going to the city of Lockport.
