Moscow (CNN)In the last four years, Russia has annexed Crimea from Ukraine, meddled in a US election and helped turn the tide of the Syrian war in Bashar al-Assad's favor. Now it's in a major diplomatic row with the UK, which blames Moscow for the poisoning of a former spy, his daughter, and a British policeman in the English countryside. The UK's top defense official said Thursday that Russia was "ripping up the international rulebook." Such an accusation is likely music to President Vladimir Putin's ears -- his popularity tends to spike when Russia confronts the West, polls show. He is well on track to retain power in an election this Sunday, but he is showing a growing appetite for power beyond his country's borders, and Russia is beginning to fill the void in parts of the world where the US once … [Read more...] about Arms, oil and fake news: 6 ways Russia is changing the world

Exclusive — Kevin McCarthy: GOP Aims to Retake House After Impeachment by Turning Out 8.5 Million Trump Voters who Stayed Home in 2018
House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy told Breitbart News exclusively that Republicans think they can retake the House majority in 2020 by turning out millions of voters who backed President Donald Trump in 2016 but stayed home in the 2018 midterm elections. In fact, in his latest exclusive interview on Breitbart News Saturday on SiriusXM 125 the Patriot Channel, McCarthy explained that Republicans would currently be in the House majority had these voters turned out in 2018—and that the GOP would have held at least 28 more seats than the party currently has. “There were 8.5 million Trump voters who voted in 2016 who did not turn out in 2018,” McCarthy said. They’re identified. If they turned out in 2018, and we know exactly where they live, we’d still be in the majority. We would have won 28 seats that we currently don’t have.” Having the president atop the ticket in 2020, McCarthy said, will help the GOP turn those nearly nine million voters out who … [Read more...] about Exclusive — Kevin McCarthy: GOP Aims to Retake House After Impeachment by Turning Out 8.5 Million Trump Voters who Stayed Home in 2018

Christi Paul: I connected with other abused women — and it changed me
Christi Paul anchors the weekend editions of CNN's New Day. The views expressed here are her own. Read more opinion on CNN. (CNN)Several years ago, I walked into an auditorium full of women in Atlanta. I was there to participate in a panel alongside other women to talk about something we all had in common: abuse. We knew what it felt like to be hurt, to feel threatened, to feel forgotten by someone we loved. What was evident, though often forgotten, is that abuse doesn't only happen to "certain people." Among the women who sat beside me that day was a TV executive, a musician, and a city leader. We all had our stories. Yet, when I looked around at the other women on the panel, I realized that I was the only white woman. In fact, I was one of maybe a handful of white women in the entire auditorium. Christi Paul Perhaps that's because 52% of people living in Atlanta are African American, according to the US Census Bureau. Atlanta ranks as the second largest majority black … [Read more...] about Christi Paul: I connected with other abused women — and it changed me
