White House coronavirus advisor Jeff Zients announced at Wednesday’s COVID-19 briefing that the federal government will build three new mass vaccination sites in Texas and that the Centers for Disease Control had released its new guidance on tight-fitting masks. The sites will be located at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Ferris Park in Dallas, and NRG Stadium in Houston. Zients predicted that the sites will be opened to the public starting the week of Feb. 22 and, combined, will be capable of administering 10,000 vaccinations per day. Exclusive: After 2020 Gains, Kevin McCarthy Eyes House GOP Majority, Speaker’s Gavel in Midterms
House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy has a fresh spring in his step after the Republicans defied the odds and professional political prognosticators by picking up 15 seats in the 2020 congressional elections. McCarthy, who has his eyes on the majority in November 2022, approached the 2020 congressional elections differently than Republicans in recent history have traditionally targeted congressional electoral efforts, and his moves paid off—and not only infuriated but befuddled the beltway pundit class. For the first time since 1994, in 2020 no GOP incumbent running for reelection lost. Meanwhile, McCarthy blew away fundraising records previously set by former House Speaker Paul Ryan—astonishing since he did it from the minority. Usually, House political leaders do better raising money from the majority. That’s not to mention the most significant development which is a freshman class entering Congress in 2021 that represents perhaps the most diverse in party history with the most … [Read more...] about Exclusive: After 2020 Gains, Kevin McCarthy Eyes House GOP Majority, Speaker’s Gavel in Midterms

Judge blocks Biden’s 100-day moratorium on deportations
A federal judge late Tuesday blocked the Biden administration's 100-day deportation freeze, a move that comes as the White House faces criticism for not immediately rolling back the Trump administration's controversial policies. The Associated Press reported that U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton issued a preliminary injunction halting the deportation freeze. Tipton's move does not force the Biden administration to continue deportations at the current pace, the news service noted. ADVERTISEMENT Last month, Tipton granted Texas a temporary restraining order, finding the deportation freeze violated administrative procedure. "Texas has thus far satisfactorily demonstrated it is entitled to immediate and temporary relief from the January 20 Memorandum’s 100-day pause on removals," he wrote in the January decision. The White House did not immediately return a request for comment regarding a possible appeal of Tipton's latest ruling. Immigration advocates have hounded … [Read more...] about Judge blocks Biden’s 100-day moratorium on deportations
