RSA cybersecurity conference tries to rehab image among women
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 Not once did conference organizer Sandra Toms have to wait in line at the women’s restroom at the RSA Conference, the world’s largest gathering of information security professionals, her first year. That’s how many women went in 1998. Much has changed, though some question if it’s enough. Toms has been the chief organizer of the RSA Conference in San Francisco for 21 years, helping to grow it from a meeting of a few hundred mathematicians and cryptographers in the early ’90s to an event attended by more than 40,000 people, including business leaders from around the world. The audience for this week’s conference, held at the Moscone Center in the South of Market area, is expected to include about 20 percent women. “It’s nice to wait in line for a restroom,” said Toms, sitting in a conference room, her hands resting on a stuffed accordion folder. Supreme Court To Hear Case Involving PA Native Andy Warhol, Prince
0 Politics & Government The nation's highest court has agreed to hear a case in which the two late artists figure prominently. Eric Heyl , Patch Staff Posted Reply WASHINGTON, D.C. — Pittsburgh native Andy Warhol has been dead since 1987. Musician and film star Prince died in 2016. Yet the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case involving both of them. The court, known more for legal opinions than artistic ones, will determine whether Warhol violated a photographer's copyright when he created a series of Prince silkscreens based on her work. Warhol used a preexisting photo to craft the silkscreens around the time Prince became a pop culture icon in the 1980s with the release of the "Purple Rain" movie and album. Court documents in the case noted that Vanity Fair in 1984 commissioned Warhol, whose museum in Pittsburgh has attracted fans for decades, to create an image of Prince for an article titled "Purple Fame." … [Read more...] about Supreme Court To Hear Case Involving PA Native Andy Warhol, Prince

Column: By dropping 3 of 4 games, Chicago White Sox show they’re not on the same level as the New York Yankees
The Chicago White Sox have three more games against the New York Yankees next weekend in the Bronx, so there’s still a chance to show they’re in the same league. They might have been considered equals at the outset of the 2022 season, but the four-game series that concluded Sunday suggests they’re in different stratospheres. The Yankees are the best team in baseball. The Sox are a talented team that isn’t living up to its own lofty expectations. And it showed this weekend on the South Side. Four home runs and a seven-run eighth inning paced the Yankees to a 15-7 win in Thursday’s opener , and they busted out to a 5-0 lead after two innings Friday, pounding out four more home runs in a 10-4 shellacking . After the Sox eked out a 3-2 win Saturday on Luis Robert’s walk-off hit, Michael Kopech imploded during a 41-pitch second inning Sunday, issuing four walks, forcing in two runs and allowing a third to score on a wild pitch. It was a prolonged hiccup during an … [Read more...] about Column: By dropping 3 of 4 games, Chicago White Sox show they’re not on the same level as the New York Yankees

More than 130 Orange County, California, homes are still under evacuation orders as Coastal Fire still burns
(CNN) When Keith Morey and his wife, Lynn, returned to their Laguna Niguel, California, home, they found little left in the ashes. Since its start on Wednesday, the Coastal Fire quickly ripped through mansions along hillside streets in Laguna Niguel, a city of about 65,000 with some of the state's wealthiest neighborhoods. The blaze destroyed 20 homes and damaged at least 11 others, county officials said. Firefighters managed to salvage a wedding photo and returned it to the Moreys when the couple went back to their community. Susan Sarandon, George Lopez, Raymond Lee, Camila Cabello and Trace Adkins will be featured in new contexts. Kelly Clarkson sang to open NBC’s show, and Miley Cyrus performed to end it. The traditional presentations usually reveal what new shows are coming, what old shows are departing and when they will air during the week and year. … [Read more...] about NBC, Fox offer fall television plans, to a point amid change
