GLENN GUILBEAU USA TODAY Network Published 7:33 p.m. UTC Aug 27, 2018 BATON ROUGE - LSU's starting quarterback for the 2018 season opener against No. 8 Miami was chosen and notified by Coach Ed Orgeron on Monday morning, but that choice will not be made public until about 3 p.m. today. "I want to tell the team first," Orgeron said at his first weekly press conference of the season Monday at noon. LSU associate athletic director for communications Michael Bonnette told reporters he would release a depth chart at about 3 p.m. Monday that would have the first two or three LSU quarterbacks listed in order. That starter is expected to be Joe Burrow, a junior graduate transfer from Ohio State, but it could be sophomore Myles Brennan, who was the Tigers' backup for quarterback Danny Etling last season. "It was a very close decision. In fact, it seesawed back and forth last week," Orgeron said. "Either quarterback could've won out. The grades were the deciding factor." No. 24 LSU … [Read more...] about LSU starting QB has been named, but that will not be made public until about 3 p.m. Monday

GLENN GUILBEAU USA TODAY Network Published 10:41 p.m. UTC Aug 5, 2018 BATON ROUGE - It is obviously very early, and it may just be window dressing. But new LSU quarterback Joe Burrow started at the bottom as the Tigers opened practice on Saturday. The junior graduate transfer from Ohio State worked with the fourth team, while junior Justin McMillan, who had the best spring game of the quarterbacks, took the first snaps with the first team. No. 2 was sophomore Myles Brennan, and No. 3 was redshirt freshman Lowell Narcisse. "I thought all the quarterbacks did some good things," Coach Ed Orgeron said Saturday night. "I thought that Joe did some good things. Joe practiced on the fourth team today. He was the fourth quarterback to go in. His reps are going to come with the first and second teams as we go." Offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger planned to switch the order of the quarterbacks with the first unit and others during practice Sunday evening. The portion of practice with … [Read more...] about Burrow starts off at bottom for LSU
One day into LSU fall camp means one day of coach Ed Orgeron seeing who stands out on his 2018 roster. There are no pads on yet, and it's all a small sample size, but Orgeron was at least able to get a sense of who entered camp in good shape and who came prepared Saturday (Aug. 4). It was his first time seeing many of the freshman, and it was his first time seeing Ohio State grad transfer Joe Burrow at quarterback. Without further ado, here's who stood out to Orgeron from day one: Ja'Marr Chase Chase was a consistent player Orgeron brought up when listing freshmen he heard looked good in workouts. LSU finally got to see the receiver out of Rummel on Saturday, and he didn't disappoint. "The name keeps on coming up," Orgeron said. "In the team period today, Jerry (Sullivan) was really pleased with him and all the receivers." Orgeron said Chase is physical, moves well and runs routes well. Also, his 10.5-inch hands don't hurt. "He just has a natural knack for catching that football," … [Read more...] about Who stood out to Ed Orgeron in day 1 of LSU fall camp?
GLENN GUILBEAU USA TODAY Network Published 9:42 p.m. UTC Aug 3, 2018 BATON ROUGE — LSU's No. 24-ranked football team is already down one key starter, and it has not even held its first practice yet. The Tigers will not have starting right guard Ed Ingram — one of the best offensive lineman on the team — when they start practicing for the 2018 season Saturday. Ingram, a sophomore from DeSoto, Texas, is suspended indefinitely for a "violation of team rules," coach Ed Orgeron announced Friday at a press conference to kick off the start of August camp. "We have a policy in place at the university," Orgeron said. "He violated that policy. We just need to see what happens." LSU, which was ranked No. 24 in the nation in the USA Today coaches' preseason poll released Thursday, opens the season on Sunday, Sept. 2, against No. 8 Miami at 6:30 p.m on ABC in Arlington, Texas. Just two days ago, Orgeron listed Ingram as the starter at right guard while going over the … [Read more...] about LSU suffers major loss before first practice as starting guard Ed Ingram is suspended
