The 49ers own five Vince Lombardi trophies. The Raiders own three of them. They never mingle. In fact, if you ask fans of each team, such conjugal trophy visits should probably be illegal. Here are the Steelers’ six Super Bowl trophies. The Bay Area’s two franchises, combined, own two more than this. But not next month. Or the rest of the autumn. As part of the Super Bowl 50 ramp-up and hypefest, the 49ers and Raiders have agreed to let their eight combined championship trophies go on tour throughout Northern California along with a popup exhibit that will include an educational component and autograph visits from “legends” of both teams. I’m not sure how this will work out or what the reaction will be from passionate followers of each team. But I am reminded of Bill Murray’s famous line in “Ghostbusters” when he’s trying to explain what lies ahead for an under-spectral-siege New York to the city’s dubious mayor: … [Read more...] about Super Bowl 50 Countdown–25 Weeks To Go: The 49ers And Raiders’ Eight Lombardi Trophies Are Having A Party At A City Near You. Last Updated Dec 17, 2009 8:30 AM EST These days, it seems that almost every tech company is focused on "cloud computing," as most busily try to recast what they do into a cloud context. But in some cases, companies really seem to get it, and IBM (IBM) is one of them. Except given its long expertise in enterprise computing, IBM really gets it, and much of what it's doing these days seems designed to strategically dominate cloud computing as a new approach to its traditional markets. The most recent example is its acquisition of business process management vendor Lombardi. The key is not the size of the market, which market research firm IDC estimates at hitting $3 billion within a few years. It's also not really the list of clients that Lombardi has, although it is impressive: According to Lombardi CEO Rod Favaron, the company has about 300 enterprise-level customers with a high percentage shared with IBM. Lombardi has a shockingly impressive customer list, including Allianz Group, … [Read more...] about IBM Acquisition of Lombardi Influenced by Cloud Strategy
GREEN BAY, Wis. — The upcoming football season at a Green Bay middle school named for legendary Packers coach Vince Lombardi has been canceled because the school can't find any coaches. WLUK-TV reports that administrators at Lombardi Middle School have been advertising for coaches since last April and have not had a single application. Efforts by the high school coaching staff to help fill the positions have come up empty. The school district's website says a middle school coaching job pays $2,149 a season. Principal Jim Van Abel says in a letter to parents there will be opportunities for students to play with area club football teams. Lombardi Middle School student Alex Coniff says he's happy that he can still play football, but was looking forward to suiting up for his school this season. … [Read more...] about Green Bay school named for Vince Lombardi cancels football season
When you are Kevin Hart, there are only a couple of things in life you can't do. You can't reach the top kitchen cabinets and you can't get on stage with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles to hold the Lombardi Trophy. We're all aware that Hart got bombed in Minneapolis and tried to crash the Eagles' trophy presentation, only to run into a gigantic security guard who wasn't having any of it. He later appeared on television during a Fletcher Cox interview and shouted obscenities. Hart sort of apologized for his drunken conduct in an Instagram post and later took a little ribbing on the internet, notably from old friend Shaquille O'Neil, who said the North Philly native must be an alcoholic. Appearing Monday night on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," Hart divulged the full, blow-by-blow account of his ill-fated march down to the field on that rapturous Sunday night. He was, in his own words, too drunk to realize that several Eagles players were literally shouting at him to … [Read more...] about Kevin Hart explains how he blew chance to hold Lombardi Trophy after Eagles won Super Bowl

Preliminary results Monday showed Atilio Fontana with 54 percent of the vote, riding the League's popular surge in Sunday's Italian elections to an insurmountable lead over the second-place candidate from the center-left. Fontana blamed the remark on a lapse. But it apparently didn't dent his popularity with voters in the wealthy northern state and League stronghold. In January, Fontana told Radio Padania, the mouthpiece of his anti-migrant League party, that being unwilling to "accept all" immigrants isn't "xenophobic or racist," but logical. He said Italy needs to decide "if our white race, our society, must continue to exist or be canceled out." ___ 2:00 p.m. A top aide for German Chancellor Angela … [Read more...] about The Latest: Controversial candidate wins Lombardy presidency
