The spreading of one's gospel is important work, which brings us to our local music picks for April. 4/5: Mississippi Nova release show Robby Reiter, who plays guitar and sings for these bluesy garage-rock revivalists, says, "For this album, we were going for a well-rounded rock-and-roll record that lends itself to the more natural construction that was common among '60s and '70s records." And they certainly captured that vibe in the first songs they've shared from the self-titled effort – the wah-guitar-driven "Blue Eyed Hurricane," "Losin' My Mind," and the three songs featured on "Out of the Sonic Desert," their debut EP. Here's a look at those and other local highlights for December in the Valley. 12/7: The Hourglass Cats release show The Hourglass Cats are releasing a beer collaboration with Two Brothers as well as a pair of remixes by ATC Productions at a show that also features the Black Bottom Lighters, Clint Stevens, Josh Beirman, Kaleidoscope Kid and DJ sets by CHKLZ and Cristian Ritchie. Here's a look at those and other highlights of the month in local music picks. 10/4: Rockin' Out: A Benefit for Breast Cancer Awareness There's no danger of this event not living up to the Rockin' Out part of its billing, with the Rebel Set, Scorpion Vs. Tarantula, the Venomous Pinks and Sturdy Ladies joining forces for a night that's sure to range in tone from raucous to relentless. The Alphabet-owned autonomous car company is teaming up with Walmart and several other businesses in the Phoenix area to give customers free rides to and from their destinations. Participants in Waymo's early rider program — they number about 400 within a 100-square-mile section of Phoenix — can place orders for groceries on Walmart.com and get a Waymo ride to the local retail store while their order is being prepared. Then, Waymo will return them home. Waymo, which began in 2009 as Google's self-driving car project, will also give customers at area AutoNation repair centers rides while their cars are being serviced, and assist Avis Budget Group customers in Phoenix with rides to pick up or drop off rental cars, with the two Chandler locations as the first sites.
