The Black Lives Matter inspired attacks on British heritage in universities shows no signs of abating, as students at Durham have removed Margaret Thatcher from a list of inspirational women and academics as Oxford plot to remove Cecil Rhodes’ name from a professorship. Baroness Thatcher was removed from a list of women set to be honoured in a portrait competition at Durham University’s Art Society after students complained about Britain’s first female prime minister being included, who they alleged was homophobic. We can only apologise for any offence or … [Read more...] about Fresh Push to Unperson Thatcher, Rhodes, from British Universities

Rugby: Standing Welsh Team Defeats Kneeling English to Claim Triple Crown
No-kneeling Wales defeated England in the Six Nations rugby tournament to claim the competition’s prized Triple Crown. The Six Nations has been marked by controversy around the vexed question of whether players should be expected to kneel for the Black Lives Matter movement before games, with a historic win by a Scotland over England on English soil being somewhat marred by a woke backlash over the fact that few Scots bent the knee, while the great majority of England players did. The Scottish team bucked the prevailing trend of caving in to such outcries, however, with not one of their players taking a knee ahead of their subsequent match against the Welsh side, which also remained standing . Wales also kept their feet ahead of their latest game against England — half the English squad knelt, according to reports , indicating that the gesture may be somewhat losing its power — which they won 40-24. The Gifts Our Senior Editor Is Contemplating for Her Anniversary
Every month, we Strategist editors tell you about the best things we’ve recently bought for ourselves. But what about the things we wish other people would buy for us? It’s a ritual for us to share our holiday wish lists , but during the rest of the year we’re also having birthdays, housewarming parties, weddings , babies , and more. So now we’re spilling about the gifts we’d like for those milestones, as well. This time: senior editor Margaret Rhodes on anniversary gifts. The only person I know who’s pickier than a Strat editor is the one with whom I’m celebrating a three-year anniversary. The man will drink Yuengling out of a faded wedding koozie, but to shop with him is to analyze details most of us pass over — the way thread loops through a button, or the shade of rubber on the sole of a Vans shoe . I won’t even buy a houseplant without consulting him, so in honor of our anniversary — something that’s a mutual celebration, anyway — any … [Read more...] about The Gifts Our Senior Editor Is Contemplating for Her Anniversary
