U.S. An integral part of some people’s New Year’s Eve plans is having the proper libations to wave goodbye to the past and toast to the future. However, before the ball drops, it’s important to purchase those spirits and store hours are dependent on the state. The sale of alcohol is largely regulated on a state by state basis and along with issuing proper licensing, state governments have put restrictions on when alcohol can be sold. While states require sales to be conducted during certain time frames, it is generally not required for stores to be open during the whole window of sales. So, before heading out to a New Year’s Eve destination, it’s best to check with local liquor stores to make sure they’ll be open when you arrive. It was another banner sales year for Minnesota municipal liquor stores in 2017, the first time they were open on Sundays. The stores reported a 22nd consecutive year of record sales, totaling $348.9 million, which was a $4.5 million increase over 2016, according to a state report released Thursday. Lakeville’s $14.5 million in sales was tops among the 190 Minnesota cities that operated 223 municipal liquor stores. The next four in sales were Edina ($12.9 million), Richfield ($11.3 million), Eden Prairie ($10.5 million) and Apple Valley ($9.1 million). Sunday liquor sales began July 2, 2017. The report did not specify sales before and after the change. The combined net profit of municipal liquor operations totaled $23.1 million in 2017, a 1.3 percent increase over 2016. Net profits and losses ranged from a loss of $153,489 in Finlayson to a $1 million profit in Edina. Lakeville was second in profit by netting $960,000.
