The FBI raid on former President Donald Trump took place just days after historians met with President Joe Biden last week, reportedly warning him of a looming civil war. On August 4, several historians met with Biden at the White House warning him that America was facing divisions similar to that of the years before the Civil War before the 1860 election, according to The Washington Post. The group of historians included historian Jon Meacham, journalist Anne Applebaum, Princeton professor Sean Wilentz, University of Virginia historian Allida Black and presidential historian Michael Beschloss, according to the reports. Business Highlights: Inflation data, social media controls
___ Lower prices offer Americans slight reprieve from inflation WASHINGTON (AP) — Falling prices for gas, airline tickets and clothes gave Americans a little bit of relief last month, though overall inflation is still running at close to its highest level in four decades. Government data released Wednesday showed that consumer prices jumped 8.5% in July compared with a year earlier. That’s down from a 9.1% year-over-year increase in June. Washburn Fire update: Blaze grows and containment drops
Update: Washburn Fire ‘very unlikely’ to damage Yosemite’s giant sequoias despite growing blaze The wildfire burning across the southwest corner of Yosemite National Park grew Tuesday to 3,516 acres, officials said. The Washburn Fire has been burning for nearly a week as almost 550 firefighters fight to protect the historic Mariposa Grove, home to more than 500 giant sequoias in the park. Crews said Tuesday they were reporting success in preventing the flames from reaching the famed trees. But containment of the blaze dropped from 22% to 17% by Tuesday evening as the fire grew. Lee Byer, a spokesperson for the National Park Service, described the firefight as “slow, steady and intense,” adding that, “due to the significant heavy fuels, such as large dead trees, (the fire) is creating a lot of heat and smoke.” The cause of the fire was still under investigation, but because there was no lightning in the area, officials have said the fire is likely to have been … [Read more...] about Washburn Fire update: Blaze grows and containment drops
