The Justice Department is preparing legal action against entertainment company Live Nation over its ticketing practices, according to multiple reports. The company will be accused of strong-arming concert venues into using Ticketmaster, which is owned by Live Nation, The Wall Street Journal first reported, citing people familiar. A source told Reuters that the Justice Department thinks Live Nation's actions are in violation of a 2010 Live Nation-Ticketmaster merger settlement. The government plans to file a decree enforcement action, the person told Reuters. ADVERTISEMENTNeither Live Nation nor the Justice Department immediately responded to The Hill's request for comment. The government also reportedly plans to expand restrictions by several years as the settlement is slated to expire next year. Reuters reported that Live Nation has said in a government filing that it worked on 35,000 events with more than 4,500 artists in 2018 and has sole booking rights … [Read more...] about DOJ preparing legal action against Live Nation over ticketing practices: reports

Carney: Fannie and Freddie Investors Should Be Wary About Latest Legal WIn
Shares of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac rose on Friday after a federal court unsealed an opinion that allowed some of the legal claims brought by investors to proceed.Judge Margaret Sweeney of the Court of Federal Claims dismissed many of the claims brought by shareholders in the two companies who claim that the government’s sweep of their profits violates the law and amounts to an unconstitutional taking without compensation, holding the law barred the court from adjudicating any alleged injuries to the shareholders. Like so many other federal courts who have considered the question, Sweeney held that the Claims Court lacked jurisdiction to rule on allegations that shareholders were harmed by 2012 changes to the terms of the government’s support for Fannie and Freddie. Sweeney, however, did not toss out the claims based on the idea that the companies themselves were harmed by government action. These so-called derivative claims will be allowed to proceed to trial. … [Read more...] about Carney: Fannie and Freddie Investors Should Be Wary About Latest Legal WIn
Fannie and Freddie Investors’ Legal Win Casts Housing Finance Reform in Doubt
Investors in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac won a legal skirmish in their long-running battle against the U.S. government’s claim to nearly all of the mortgage-finance giants’ profits, but the ruling could jeopardize the Trump administration’s plans to recapitalize the companies and eventually release them from government control. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday overturned a ruling that supported the 2012 agreement that required the companies to pay dividends equal to their positive net worth as a dividend to the Treasury Department. While the court declined to set aside the net worth sweep, it sharply criticized the arrangement and said investors can pursue their claims at a trial court. The en banc panel of the Fifth Circuit also said the structure of the companies’ regulator, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, is unconstitutional because its single director cannot be removed by the U.S. president except “for cause.” The court’s … [Read more...] about Fannie and Freddie Investors’ Legal Win Casts Housing Finance Reform in Doubt
Washington State Legalizes Composting Of Human Bodies
Washington became the first state to allow composting of human bodies as an alternative to being buried or cremated when Democratic Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed the legislation Tuesday. Now, licensed facilities are allowed to offer “natural organic reduction.” This process takes several weeks, and involves mixing a body with wood chips, straw and other substances. The body eventually turns into about two wheelbarrows full of compost, according to NBC News.Just like cremation, family members can keep the compost and use it as they please. Composting human bodies supposedly allows for an alternative that is healthier for the environment. Cremation requires a lot of natural energy, which result in carbon emissions, and burials can pollute groundwater because of the chemicals put into bodies. Traditional burials also take up land, according to Democratic Washington state Sen. Jamie Pedersen, who sponsored the measure. “There’s very little question that we have … [Read more...] about Washington State Legalizes Composting Of Human Bodies
