French anti-mass migration presidential candidate Marine Le Pen faces a loss of her parliamentary immunity and an investigation over tweets she posted of Islamic State violence in 2015. As anti-mass migration Front National leader Marine Le Pen continues to climb in the polls against her rivals, the European Union (EU) is pushing for her lose her parliamentary immunity. The request to remove her immunity revolved around several tweets made by Ms. Le Pen in 2015 in which she posted pictures of Islamic State violence, Reuters reports . The European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favour of lifting Le Pen’s parliamentary immunity Tuesday afternoon. Marine Le Pen winning the presidency of France will be “game over” for the European Union (EU), the former Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta has said. Speaking to an audience in Malta, Letta predicted: “You can have the end of Europe. I think the European Union can’t survive with Marine le Pen in the European Council representing France. It will be game over,” Euractiv has reported . However, he added that he would be “very optimistic” if “a younger pro-European” were to win in France, as he believes the German election due later this year will return a pro-European leader. Although Letta failed to mention him by name, his comments are likely a reference to the 39-year-old former socialist, now independent, candidate Emmanuel Macron who is widely expected to run off against Le Pen in the second round of voting on 7 May. Marine Le Pen, the presidential candidate for France’s populist National Front (FN), has pledged to put France first, hitting out at “financial globalisation”, “mass immigration”, and “Islamic fundamentalism” in a landmark speech. The 48-year-old said that “financial globalisation and Islamist globalisation are helping each other out”, and “those two ideologies aim to bring France to its knees”. According to Le Pen, globalisation can be summed up as “manufacturing with slaves to sell to the unemployed”. She pledged that an FN-led republic would be “will be all about the local, not the global”. PARIS (AFP) – French far-right leader Marine Le Pen pledged Friday if elected president she would campaign for France to leave the EU if Brussels fails to surrender control over national borders, law-making and economic and monetary policy. Le Pen, who has promised to dump the euro and organise a Brexit-style referendum on France’s membership of the European Union, has recently appeared to soften her stance, saying she is open to a “common currency” co-existing alongside a national currency.
