9 Great Apes At San Diego Zoo Become First Non-Humans To Receive A COVID Vaccine
SAN DIEGO (CBSLA) – Nine great apes at the San Diego Zoo have received a COVID-19 vaccine, it was reported Thursday. The four orangutans and five bonobos received an experimental vaccine developed by drug maker Zoetis, per CBS News. The zoo chose to give the great apes the vaccine after several gorillas at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park contracted COVID-19 in early January. “That made us realize that our other apes were at risk,” Nadine Lamberski, chief conservation and wildlife health officer for the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, told the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper Thursday. “We wanted to do our best to protect them from this virus because we don’t really know how it’s going to impact them.” They mark the first known non-human primates to get the shot, according to CBS News . Zoetis announced in late January that it had received a request from the zoo to provide them with the experimental vaccine for emergency use. Christian Parent Furious After School Instructs Children To Write Out Their Submission To Allah
A West Virginia school has come under fire for instructing junior high students to write the Islamic profession of faith ostensibly to practice calligraphy. Rich Penkoski, a Christian parent and founder of online ministry Warriors for Christ, raised alarms over a packet on Islam his daughter’s seventh grade social studies teacher issued to students, according to Christian Post . The packet, edited from the full version of a world religions workbook , instructed students to practice writing the Shahada, or Islamic profession of faith, in Arabic calligraphy — an assignment that, if left undone, would result in detention, according to Penkoski’s daughter. Christian Student Group Sues After Getting Kicked Off College Campus
A Christian student group sued the University of Iowa Monday after the school kicked it off campus for requiring its student officers to hold the same religious beliefs. The Business Leaders in Christ, which seeks to foster a discussion regarding how students can incorporate Christianity into business environments, sued the university, along with a few individual administrators for religious discrimination, according to a press release from Becket , the religious liberty group serving as the plaintiff’s counsel. “This is premeditated religious discrimination, plain and simple,” said Eric Baxter, the Becket senior counsel representing the student group. “A state school cannot demand a change to students’ faith any more than the U.S. President could demand a change to the Bible.” Business Leaders in Christ alleges that the University of Iowa said the group could pick officers that share the group’s religious beliefs, as long as the group were transparent about those beliefs … [Read more...] about Christian Student Group Sues After Getting Kicked Off College Campus
