LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Wednesday reported 1,759 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases and 116 deaths, bringing countywide totals to 1,195,913 cases and 21,669 deaths. Of the new deaths reported, 32 people were over the age of 80, 39 people were between the ages of 65 and 79, 21 people were between the ages of 50 and 64, eight people were between the ages of 30 and 49 and one person was between the ages of 18 and 29. Long Beach reported 13 deaths and Pasadena added two. LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A Los Angeles police officer struck last month while conducting traffic control in South Los Angeles following a crash has died, the department confirmed Wednesday. LAPD Statement on the passing of Officer Jose Anzora, who died today from injuries sustained while on duty. A retired cop vacationing in Las Vegas was killed in the early hours of Sunday morning on the strip when a man attacked him in a "single punch pre-dawn confrontation," authorities said. Thomas Driscoll, 57, was walking across a street bridge around 4 a.m. with a female when Brandon Marcus Leath, 33, started shouting at them and following them. Leath waited for them at the bottom of an escalator then allegedly punched Driscoll, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious. Thomas Driscoll was a 22 year veteran of the Connecticut State Police. WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA) — More vaccine sites are opening up in Los Angeles County to help get shots to underserved communities hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. “Thank God for the vaccine,” Gwendolyn Beck said. And the hospital is hoping to make access easier for those eligible for the shot — including people 65 and older, education and childcare workers and those who work in the food industry — by offering walk-up vaccination appointments to those who live or work in South Los Angeles or Compton. “What we’re asking them to bring is the proof of identity,” Tarick Jackson, the site administrator, said.
