COSTA MESA (CBSLA) — A Costa Mesa man with several DUI convictions has been charged with murder after a hit-and-run crash that killed a 74-year-old man. Stewart Waithanji, 28, was arrested in the parking lot of a Los Alamitos bar not long after the crash Saturday afternoon on Newport Boulevard, south of 17th Street, in Costa Mesa, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. We’ve charged him with first-degree murder and our goal is to keep him off the streets for life,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit By 2 Cars In South LA; 3 Witnesses That Tried To Help Him Sought For Questioning
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Police are searching for several witnesses who stopped to help a man who had been fatally struck by a two cars in South LA. (credit: LAPD) The initial crash happened at about 1:20 a.m. Monday on Main Street, just north of 71st Street. A light-colored, two-door vehicle going south on Main Street hit a 35-year-old man standing into the southbound lanes, catapulting him into the air and land on the other side of the street, according to the LAPD. LA County Now In Severe Drought Category
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Southern California appears to be in the grips of yet another period of serious drought conditions. Both Los Angeles and Ventura counties have been placed in the severe drought category of the U.S. Drought Monitor. According to the latest map released April 8, both counties were upgraded from moderate to severe. Since the rainy season started Oct. 1, L.A. has received just 5.8 inches of rain, according to CBSLA Meteorologist Amber Lee.
