COSTA MESA (CBSLA) — A Costa Mesa man with several DUI convictions has been charged with murder after a hit-and-run crash that killed a 74-year-old man. Stewart Waithanji, 28, was arrested in the parking lot of a Los Alamitos bar not long after the crash Saturday afternoon on Newport Boulevard, south of 17th Street, in Costa Mesa, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. We’ve charged him with first-degree murder and our goal is to keep him off the streets for life,” said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Police are searching for several witnesses who stopped to help a man who had been fatally struck by a two cars in South LA. (credit: LAPD) The initial crash happened at about 1:20 a.m. Monday on Main Street, just north of 71st Street. A light-colored, two-door vehicle going south on Main Street hit a 35-year-old man standing into the southbound lanes, catapulting him into the air and land on the other side of the street, according to the LAPD. The pedestrian was left in the roadway, prompting two other drivers to stop and check on him. One was woman who stopped and talked to the man in an apparent attempt to help him, then left the scene. LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Southern California appears to be in the grips of yet another period of serious drought conditions. Both Los Angeles and Ventura counties have been placed in the severe drought category of the U.S. Drought Monitor. According to the latest map released April 8, both counties were upgraded from moderate to severe.
