Breaking News - Prominent Syrian activist killed in Idlib published: 23 Nov 2018 views: 91 Prominent Syrian media activist shot dead in Idlib A prominent Syrian media activist has been shot dead by gunmen in the rebel-held province of Idlib, Syria. Raed Fares, a well-known Syrian media activist, was killed in the northwestern town of Kafranbel. Mr Fares founded Radio Fresh, an independent radio station broadcasting from inside opposition-held areas in the country. He and his radio station had been targeted by jihadist groups in the past. Four years ago, when the Islamic State (IS) group had a presence in Idlib province, the station\'s office was raided by militants. In 2016, Mr Fares was detained by the Nusra Front, the former al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria. The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham alliance (HTS), which currently controls most of Idlib province, ordered Radio Fresh to stop broadcasting music. A dozen U.S. lawmakers are asking the Federal Communications Commission to investigate whether or not Sinclair Broadcast Group is "deliberately distorting" the news. USA Today reports 12 Democratic senators have sent a letter to FCC chairman Ajit Pai calling for an investigation of Sinclair, which owns or operates nearly 200 TV stations, including CNY Central in Syracuse and stations in Buffalo, Rochester and Albany. "We have strong concerns that Sinclair has violated the public interest obligation inherent in holding broadcast licenses," Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and others wrote Wednesday. U.S. Tucker Carlson Syria Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, whose rhetoric about the conflict in Syria has mirrored certain aspects of what has been said on neo-Nazi and white nationalist conspiracy websites, is now taking heat from other conservatives over his views.
