Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released a statement Friday calling President Joe Biden’s court-packing commission a “direct assault on our nation’s independent judiciary.” In McConnell’s statement, he called the left’s attempt to pack the court a “direct assault on our nation’s independent judiciary,” another sign of the Biden administration veering further left. The Republican Senator said there is nothing to “study” about the judicial branch’s structure or operation, adding that any “rational observers know well there is nothing.” McConnell Continued: Constitutional scholars and the justices themselves have repeatedly affirmed the position of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: ‘nine seems to be a good number.’ Justice Breyer said just this week that ‘structural alteration’ like court packing would mean ‘eroding’ the public’s trust in the judiciary. And by overwhelming margins, the American people agree. Currently, a growing number of elected … [Read more...] about Mitch McConnell Blasts Joe Biden’s New Court Packing Commission, a ‘Direct Assault’ on the Judiciary

Pinkerton: Joe Biden, First Elected in the 1970s, Is Bringing Back the 1970s
When Joe Met Jimmy Joe Biden was first elected to public office in 1970, the same year that Jimmy Carter was elected governor of Georgia. Two years later, in 1972, Biden was elected as a senator from Delaware, and four years after that, in 1976, Carter was elected to the presidency—with Biden as a worker bee on his behalf . So, during the late 1970s, Biden served in the Senate while Carter was in the White House. Then in 1980, when Carter was running for re-election, Biden appeared at the Democratic National Convention praising Carter on national television. In other words, Biden should remember well what life was like during the Carter administration. And he should also remember that Carter went down in a landslide defeat in 1980, losing 41 of 50 states—including Biden’s Delaware—to Ronald Reagan. President Jimmy Carter and Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., greet Biden supporters at a $1,000-a-couple fund raising reception at a Wilmington, Delaware, hotel on … [Read more...] about Pinkerton: Joe Biden, First Elected in the 1970s, Is Bringing Back the 1970s
Biden Has Yet To Endorse Amazon Unionization Effort Despite Growing Pressure
President Joe Biden hasn’t thrown his weight behind the Amazon unionization effort in Alabama despite growing pressure from progressives. Biden received the support of key labor unions during his 2020 presidential campaign, has endorsed a range of pro-union policies and has repeatedly said all Americans deserve the choice to join a union. But the president has stayed away from commenting on the unionization effort taking place in the Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama. “I think it’s important for the administration to demonstrate during this campaign its support for unionization,” Stuart Appelbaum, president of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), told HuffPost . “This is the largest campaign in many years, and this is a great opportunity for the administration to show working people what’s important to them.” The Alabama Amazon workers first filed notice of a vote to form a union in November in an attempt to become the first unionized workers in … [Read more...] about Biden Has Yet To Endorse Amazon Unionization Effort Despite Growing Pressure
Iowa and New Hampshire Won’t Be Knocked Out of First
Kamala Harris in Iowa in 2019. Is she excited about going back? Photo: Joshua Lott/Getty Images A couple of months ago, on the anniversary of the star-crossed 2020 Iowa Democratic caucuses , I suggested that the many traumas of the pandemic year had made the Iowa caucus-results meltdown seem a lot less important, and the prospects of a major shakeup in the presidential nominating process a lot less likely. Now as the political machinery for the next presidential cycle slowly gets underway, the odds that Iowa and New Hampshire will maintain their traditional positions as the first caucus and first primary states, in tandem with the other two “protected “early” states, Nevada and South Carolina, keep going up. As Geoffrey Skelley explains at FiveThirtyEight, and as Iowa-haters never seem to quite comprehend, you cannot just “reform” the nominating system by some sort of national party fiat: Ultimately, state parties and/or governments decide the timing of their … [Read more...] about Iowa and New Hampshire Won’t Be Knocked Out of First
ADL Exploits Wikipedia to Promote Group and Attack Conservatives
Numerous Wikipedia users working for the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) have been persistently adding references to the group in various articles. The scheme included attempting to mention ADL claims about antisemitism in the article about the reddit-driven stock market boom in video game retailer GameStop. The ADL editing campaign is another example of rampant efforts by paid editors and those with conflicts of interest to exploit the site’s open editing model. Several ADL accounts directly edited the group’s Wikipedia page with one’s edits heavily slanted in favor of the group and including attacks on former President Donald Trump. The ADL editing campaign is another example of rampant efforts by paid editors and those with conflicts of interest to exploit the site’s open editing model. Accounts claiming affiliation with the ADL have been active on Wikipedia since May of last year according to a page set up for their efforts. The effort was described on the page as being about … [Read more...] about ADL Exploits Wikipedia to Promote Group and Attack Conservatives
