Rob Crouse remembers getting the “Jesus Christ Superstar” rock opera concept album when it first came out on vinyl in 1970. Andrew Lloyd Weber’s music and Tim Rice’s lyrics retell the Gospels’ accounts of the last week of Jesus Christ’s life, with a powerful, modern interpretation and emotional, engaging music.“I’m sure anyone that bought that brown, two-record album with the iconic Jesus Christ Superstar symbol on the front still remembers it. I listened to it over and over and over again, and I’m sure lots of other people have that same experience,” he said. “The album was so internationally popular, they turned it into a show.”It was the next year, in fact, it made its Broadway debut. This fall, Weber, Rice and others will celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of the most well-known musicals and well-known stories around the globe by taking “Jesus Christ Superstar” on tour throughout North America. … [Read more...] about ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ returns to Capital City Productions stage March 28

No rankings, no categories: We've reached the end of another supercalifraglisticexpialodocious year in pop culture, and these are the films, shows and videos that stood out. The golden age of horror continues: "A Quiet Place" was a surprise smash hit in the spring for Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. "Mandy" was a gory, psychedelic feather in Nicolas Cage's cap. "Halloween" reunited Michael Myers with Jamie Lee Curtis and box office success. But best of all, Ari Aster's masterful debut feature "Hereditary" put an unhinged Toni Collette at the head of a most dysfunctional family with a dark secret. It all adds up to yet another great year for horror films -- the past decade has been a revolutionary one for the genre. Yalitza Aparicio and Marco Graf star in "Roma," Alfonso Cuarón's beautiful portrait of life in Mexico City in 1970. - Courtesy of Netflix Netflix's Oscar gambit: The streaming service with a penchant for bad original movies had a breakthrough last year with … [Read more...] about Childish Gambino, Lady Gaga and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ among 2018’s great Pop culture moments

And while some people may cling to the idea that it’s better to burn out than to fade away, the man born Vincent Damon Furnier has no intention of doing that. He’s just released a live album, “A Paranormal Evening at the Olympia Paris,” and is out on the road regaling his fan base with a combination of theatricality and hard rocking music that set the tone for everyone from David Bowie to Guns N’ Roses. The double-CD set features plenty of classics including “Under My Wheels,” “Billion Dollar Babies,” “I’m Eighteen,” “Only Women Bleed” and “School’s Out” — all delivered by Cooper’s current band that includes guitarist Nita Strauss and drummer Glen Sobel. It’s quite a different experience from when Cooper released his first live album in the late 1970s. “I’m very critical about how we … [Read more...] about Alice Cooper talks career from Beatles to battling demons to ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’
