Sessions hopes to recreate this scene of approval from his 2017 swearing-in ceremony. Photo: Win McNamee/Getty Images On Thursday night, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced his candidacy to unseat Democrat Doug Jones in Alabama, who won Sessions’s former Senate seat after the Republican candidate in the 2017 special election, Roy Moore, faced multiple credible allegations of child molestation. Though Sessions’s Senate bid had been expected for weeks, its format was not: an awkward video for an executive audience of one, all but begging for his squiggly endorsement. Though its intent is clear — seeking Trump’s endorsement in a crowded primary field — the 30-second spot raises multiple production questions: Did it cost more or less than Sessions’s lunch on shoot day? Why isn’t it mixed? Why is the candidate not centered in the frame? Why go with sunburst gray-brown for the background, when the Party is working with a pretty strong … [Read more...] about Jeff Sessions Announces Alabama Senate Bid By Sucking Up to Trump

Trump and Sessions in happier days. Photo: Andrtew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images With just a day to go before the deadline to enter Alabama’s 2020 Republican primaries, former attorney general Jeff Sessions has reportedly decided for certain to seek the Senate seat he held for two decades before joining Donald Trump’s cabinet. Sessions subsequently resigned as AG less than a year later in the wake of his boss’ extremely explicit fury at the Alabaman for failing to block and tackle the investigation into alleged collusion between Trump’s 2016 campaign and certain vodka-drinkers to the east of Ukraine. Here was one of many angry Trump tweets on the subject, five months before Sessions finally gratified the boss’ desire that he quit: Perhaps anticipating a comeback, Sessions has turned the other cheek in response to Trump’s bullying, indicating recently that he’s all in on Keeping America Great in 2020 because POTUS was “relentlessly … [Read more...] about Will Trump Crush Jeff Sessions’s Senate Comeback?
Photo: Ed Zurga/Getty Images Since his appointment in February, Attorney General William Barr has been the legal fixer that Trump has long pined for, but did not find in his former personal attorney Michael Cohen or ex-AG Jeff Sessions. Throughout the Mueller investigation, Barr prioritized the will of the president over the well-being of the country, covering for Trump with a misleading interpretation of the special counsel report and denying any notion that his boss has undermined the norms of the presidency. In a May interview with CBS This Morning, when the attorney general chillingly told Jan Crawford that he did not care about eroding the independence of the Justice Department because “everyone dies,” there appeared to be no sword that Barr would not fall on for the continuation of a Trump presidency. But according to a report from the Washington Post, Barr found his breaking point shortly after September 25, the day the White House released the edited transcript … [Read more...] about Attorney General William Barr Refused to Publicly State Trump Did Nothing Illegal in Ukraine: Report
Photo: Win McNamee/Getty Images The most bizarre passage in Rod Rosenstein’s letter to President Trump resigning his post as deputy attorney general is praise for “the courtesy and humor you often display in our personal conversations.” It is not standard practice for the president to have personal conversations with the deputy attorney general at all, certainly not when that person is supervising an investigation into the president himself. And while we cannot know the substance of those personal conversations, we do know that Rosenstein was once so alarmed by Trump’s behavior that he discussed invoking the 25th Amendment to have him removed on account of mental unfitness. Maybe Trump’s private conversations somehow contain the humor that is completely lacking in his public persona, which consist of boasts, lies, and belittling attacks. Trump’s public treatment of Rosenstein included tweeting an image of him behind bars along with other alleged … [Read more...] about Rod Rosenstein Embodies the Republican Surrender to Trump
CNN analyst Sam Vinograd claimed that there’s a difference between former President Barack Obama’s policy to separate children from parents who were apprehended trying to enter the country illegally and President Donald Trump’s, which did the same thing. Her claim came Tuesday afternoon during her appearance on “The Situation Room” with Wolf Blitzer, in response to Trump telling reporters earlier in the day that he had no intention of bringing back the policy of separating families at the border.WATCH: “He stopped it after he authorized the zero-tolerance policy that was announced by John Kelly here on The Situation Room, only, what, six or eight weeks after he was inaugurated and then the Attorney General Jeff Sessions, at the time, he implemented that policy,” Blitzer began. “The policy no longer exists right now, but that was a new strategy, a new policy that they had implemented to deter illegal immigration.” “Right, … [Read more...] about CNN Analyst Suggests Trump Separating Children At The Border Is Different Than When Obama Did It
