By Julie Ramhold/DealNews Black Friday is next week! We're prepping to stay in and shop online on the big day, but we also have our eye on some in-store-only deals. If you're also on the hunt for those doorbusters, you need to ask one important question: What stores are open for Black Friday? It's especially important to know if your store is going to open on Thanksgiving instead. Big-box favorites like Target, Walmart, and Best Buy like to start their sales on Turkey Day, but many smaller retailers opt to wait until Black Friday to open their doors. DealNews has compiled a comprehensive list of opening times for each of the major retailers. More stores are releasing ads every day, so be sure to check back for more confirmations. Please be aware that times may vary by retail location in some cases. Note that when we predict a shop will open on Thanksgiving and remain open straight through until closing on Black Friday, no closing time is noted for Thanksgiving. … [Read more...] about Here’s who’s open and closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday

Last Updated Nov 16, 2017 1:09 PM EST Love it or hate it, Black Friday isn't only here to stay, it's arriving earlier. Big retailers are kicking off the start to the holiday shopping season by offering "early Black Friday" sales or opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day, providing consumers who want to sneak away from their turkey dinner festivities a way to get an early start on shopping. Many of them are publishing their Black Friday sale advertisements this week in a bid to entice shoppers through their doors on Nov. 23 and 24. "Now we're seeing more and more retailers offering their actual Black Friday deals early," said Courtney Jespersen, consumer savings expert at NerdWallet. "Best Buy, for instance, hosted early deals when its ad leaked on Nov. 8. Office Depot and JCPenney are also giving teaser deals early. Retailers are trying to get consumers to shop all month long - as opposed to only on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday."Retailers are heading into this year's … [Read more...] about Black Friday 2017: Sales are starting earlier
(CBS) - The popular location-based mobile application Foursquare is turning Black Friday into a game with real-life benefits. If you get tired of fighting off sleepy door-busting campers, try to make your experience a game. You wouldn't be alone. A recent infographic released by Foursquare showed a spike of check-ins on Black Friday last year. The most popular locations were Target, Best Buy and Walmart. No surprise there, but I was disappointed at Apple fans, who came in a measly sixth place - behind Toys "R" Us! Shame, Macheads. Here are some of the deals you can unlock by checking in on Foursquare. JCPenney: For every check-in between 4am and 1pm, $25 will be donated to the Salvation Army (up to $100k). Sports Authority: Check in at any of their locations nationwide, spend more than $100 and get a $25 cash card on the spot. They'll also be awarding $500 cash cards to 20 random people that check in at their retail locations that day. Aeropostale: Check in at any of their … [Read more...] about CBS News Logo Foursquare offers Black Friday check-in specials
Thanksgiving came and went. And with that, the pivotal holiday shopping season has begun. But things are off to an inauspicious start as the American consumer just didn't perform as well as expected on Black Friday. Seems that 4K televisions and cheap tablets aren't motivating the kind of shop-till-you-drop attitude of years past. A lift in online traffic couldn't help overall results either. Stocks dropped on Monday in response with the Retail SPDR (XRT) down 2.2 percent and is trading below levels seen in the run-up to Black Friday 2014. The question is: Can retailers entice American shoppers before the end of the year and restore investor confidence? ShopperTrak surveys put in-store sales at about $12.1 billion on Thursday and Friday, down from about $12.3 billion in 2014. It seems the trend towards earlier promotions, such as store openings on Thanksgiving itself, could be diluting the draw of Black Friday which first started in 1983 when Sears opened its doors early. Data from … [Read more...] about Black Friday disappoints. Can retailers recover?
On the Friday after Thanksgiving, millions of Americans will go into high gear on their holiday shopping, hoping to scoop up good deals as they search for gifts for friends and family. Yet some merchants are more likely than others to offer savings. So shoppers may want to study up on which retailers to visit before heading out on Friday, according to a study from WalletHub. Shoppers will likely spend an average of $657 on holiday gifts this year, an increase of 8 percent from last year. Americans will still most likely to shop in physical stores rather than via online retailers, NerdWallet found. For more tips on budgeting and spending for the festive season, see our annual Holiday Financial Guide Even though Americans plan to be more generous gift-givers this year, retailers face increasing competition to attract a share of their spending. Online merchants are growing more aggressive with their Cyber Monday promotions, while millennials -- which count as … [Read more...] about Black Friday discounts: Start your search here
