Special teams Robbie Gould’s 54-yard field goal in the second quarter was the longest in franchise playoff history and his longest since 2015. It was the highlight of a 3-of-3 performance that also included kicks of 27 and 42 yards. Mitch Wishnowsky had just two punts, but he pinned the Packers at their 8-yard line on his second one. All of these elements compound the culture war of which Kaepernick has become an integral part. Fans incensed by his refusal to show deference to the American flag make arguments parallel to that of those who defend the Redskins’ name. For both, the violence committed under each symbol is incidental, if not negligible or nonexistent. The flag is no calling card of oppression, but a stand-in for sacrifices “the troops” have made for us; standing for it means showing respect for them. Green Bay's offensive line looked off-kilter against Seattle far too many times, but it gets back RT Bryan Bulaga (75), who was ill last week. LT David Bakhtiari (69) excels but the rest of that unit could be done in by San Francisco's terrific front seven. Rookie Nick Bosa (97) is the latest addition, and he's a force on the outside. DT DeForest Buckner (99) has had a strong impact, and LBs Fred Warner (54) and Kwon Alexander (56), who is finally healthy, are formidable. Having edge rusher Dee Ford (55) back last week was huge, helping the Niners to six sacks against Minnesota. … [Read more...] about Who matches up best in yet another Packers-49ers title game?
