Georgia Slater USA TODAY Published 2:32 PM EDT Jul 30, 2019 Piers Morgan had a lot to say about actress Jameela Jamil being included in Duchess Meghan female trailblazers UK issue of Vogue. The Duchess of Sussex guest edited the September issue of British Vogue, highlighting Jamil as one of the fearless changemakers on the "Forces for Change"-themed cover. Meghan included Jamil as one of the 15 stars on the cover for her stance on encouraging body positivity. Jamil has been an outspoken activist against airbrushing and diet culture, running an Instagram account entitled "I Weigh" dedicated to the topic. While the magazine has received praise for discussing women's empowerment, Morgan was less than impressed. The "Good Morning Britain" co-anchor, who has battled with Jamil over social media in the past, took to Twitter yesterday with his feelings about seeing "The Good Place" actress on the cover of Vogue. ENTERTAINMENT 01/02/2019 05:35 pm ET "The Good Place" star tweeted that she'd be turning her body-positivity Instagram account "I Weigh" into a company. By Jenna Amatulli Jameela Jamil is turning her popular body-positivity-focused Instagram account, @i_weigh, into a company. “The Good Place” actress made her announcement Wednesday, tweeting that one of her company’s main goals is “to work towards a policy change that means this way of talking about people’s bodies is considered hate speech.” “Fat-phobia is real, it is pervasive and prevalent and is damaging the mental health of millions,” she wrote. Her announcement came in the form of a quote-tweet responding to a fan who alerted her to a tabloid magazine’s body-shaming photographs. I’m turning “I Weigh” into a company, and one of our main goals is to work towards a policy change that means this way of talking about people’s bodies is … [Read more...] about Jameela Jamil Announces Company Launch To Change How People Talk About Bodies
Opinion The holiday season is upon us. Food gets increasingly greasier and saltier, there is a reason to eat cake almost every day, and winter layers give us the cover and comfort to just take a break from thinking about our bodies for a minute. Well, they would, if the diet industry and almost all women’s publications didn’t take this prime opportunity to double down on the guilt parade of women daring to eat “unhealthy,” “dirty” food. It’s obscene how blatant the rhetoric is. By winter we have only just escaped the six month onslaught of “Are you beach body ready?” God forbid we could just focus on something else for a minute and enjoy ourselves during this festive time with friends and family. Every public holiday is treated like a Last Supper for women. You best have enjoyed that meal hun, because it’s the last one you will eat until you finally meet society’s narrow standards of beauty, then maybe … [Read more...] about Jameela Jamil: Celebrities Who Flog Diet Products Don’t Care About Their Fans

So the TV impresario made a sitcom that’s also a profound work of philosophy. By SAM ANDERSON OCT. 4, 2018 How do hands move in heaven? Ted Danson knows. Watch him in “The Good Place,” NBC’s circle-squaring philosophical sitcom about life, death, good, evil, redemption and frozen yogurt. As Danson speaks, his hands flutter and hover in front of him like a pair of trained birds. They poke and swirl, pinch and twist. They snap suddenly ahead to accent a word as if they’re plucking a feather from a passing breeze. Danson is tall and slim — he was a basketball star growing up — and his hands are expressively large. He can move them, when he needs to, with the long-fingered languor of Michelangelo’s God reaching out to touch Adam. On the … [Read more...] about What Makes ‘The Good Place’ so Good?
William Jackson Harper as Chidi, Jameela Jamil as Tahani, Kristen Bell as Eleanor and Manny Jacinto as Jason in The Good Place. Colleen Hayes/NBC Given the reputation The Good Place has already earned, it feels weird to argue this show is somehow underrated. And yet, it is. The popular, high-concept sitcom from Michael Schur is armed to the teeth with incredible writers like Megan Amram, Jen Statsky, Joe Mande, Matt Murray, Alan Yang and so many more. It’s thoughtful, hilarious, brazen and basically the pinnacle of what this form of TV can offer. Even the conceit is brilliant: a terrible person accidentally gets into heaven and hijinks ensue. But that’s just the starting off point; this is a show that evolves into something so much more—a perfect way to explore the endless permutations of human nature and morality. Now, if you’ve heard all these good things and somehow been putting it off, get caught up before it returns on September 27. The entire show is on … [Read more...] about The Ultimate Lesson of ‘The Good Place’: Change Is REALLY Hard
