Half of Asylum Seekers Entering Germany in 2020 Had No Identification
According to information from the German federal Interior ministry, over half of the migrants who entered the country in 2020 came without any sort of identification paperwork whatsoever. The information came as an answer to a question posed by libertarian Free Democrat (FDP) politician Linda Teuteberg, with the ministry stating, “In 2020, the proportion of first asylum applicants aged 18 and over without identity papers was 51.8 per cent.” Teuteberg commented on the reply saying, “The fact that one in two first-time applicants cannot be identified on the basis of appropriate documents is a major challenge for our asylum system,” German broadcaster NTV reports . ‘Pivot’ The Humpback Whale, Often Seen In Gulf Of Maine, Found Dead On Maryland Coast
ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, Md. (CBS) — A humpback whale with a long history of being spotted in New England waters has been found dead off the coast of Maryland. “Pivot” was founded stranded last week on Assateague Island, the state’s Department of Natural Resources Fisheries said. “We are sad to confirm that a well-known Gulf of Maine humpback whale, Pivot, was found stranded along the Maryland coast last Thursday night,” the department said in a Facebook post. “Pivot’ was first cataloged by [the Center for Coastal Studies] in 2008 and had a regular sighting history in the Gulf of Maine.” READ MORE: Life Threatening Injuries After Several People Hit On High Street In Boston It’s not clear yet what caused Pivot’s death. Ghana becomes first country to receive Covid vaccine through COVAX program
(CNN) Ghana has become the first country to receive Covid-19 vaccines through the World Health Organization's COVAX program on Wednesday, a joint statement issued by UNICEF Ghana and WHO Ghana said. The shipment, consisting of 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines, arrived at 7 am GMT Wednesday on an Emirates flight at Kotoka International Airport, in Ghana's capital Accra. The minister for health-designate, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, led a government delegation to receive the consignment. As the plane carrying the vaccines landed, state-run Ghana Broadcasting Corporation journalist Abdul Hayi-Moomen declared: "The flight carrying the vaccines that we so much look forward to receiving, I believe hope has arrived." The vaccines were produced by the Serum Institute of India, in the Indian city of Pune, and are part of the first wave of Covid-19 vaccines headed to low and middle-income countries, the joint statement added. (CNN) The world's largest cricket stadium hosted its first Test match on Wednesday. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, hosted the third in a four-match series between India and England, the first Test match it has hosted since its refurbishment. Originally constructed in 1982 with a capacity on 42,000, an impressive renovation plan was announced in October 2015, in which the capacity was increased to 110,000 spectators. The reconstruction plan, which was completed in February 2020, meant that the stadium surpassed the Melbourne Cricket Ground -- which has a capacity of 90,000 -- to become the world's largest cricket stadium.
