Academic All-State: Through gymnastics, East’s Linscott found balance between tennis, studies
Justine Linscott is not stranger to a mental workout.But despite winning a Class A No. 2 singles state tennis title last spring, her mental strength does not come from the tennis court.The Lincoln East senior ranks sixth in her class of 496 students with a 4.5 grade-point average. AP exams and other classwork are Linscott’s main focus as she strives to live out the word that comes first in "student-athlete."That hasn’t come without sacrifice.“I just know my priorities," she said. "So knowing what is important to me, the biggest thing being school, has really helped me throughout high school."Those priorities took a shift about four years ago. Prep Track: Eldon Invitational
ELDON — The Eldon Lady Mustangs ran away with first place Thursday in the Eldon Maroon and Gold Invitational. Eldon finished with 168 points, well ahead of second-place Centralia with 126.5. Versailles was third with 94, followed by School of the Osage with 77 and Cole Camp with 63. The Eldon boys finished second in the team standings with 121 points, only trailing Centralia's 134 points. Versailles was third with 85, followed by Osage with 75.5 and Buffalo with 65.5. The Lady Mustangs posted four event wins. Macie Halderman won the triple jump, Haley Clifton took first in the shot put, Emma Hoback claimed first in the 300-meter hurdles and Faith Parrent took home the title in the 3,200-meter run. The Osage girls won a total of five events, including first-place finishes in the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays. Cecilia Verslues was a double-winner in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Karli Kempf placed first in the javelin.
