Denver prosecutors charged a 14-year-old boy with first-degree murder Monday, alleging he was the gunman who fired multiple shots into an SUV on West Colfax Avenue last month, striking the driver in the head at least once and killing her. The Denver District Attorney’s Office also charged 18-year-old Neshan Johnson — accused of driving the car the suspected shooter emerged from — with first-degree murder in the Feb. 20 shooting of Pamela Cabriales, 32. Prosecutors did not identify the 14-year-old because he’s a juvenile, though they’ve filed a motion seeking to transfer his case to adult court. According to a probable cause statement , Cabriales was sitting in her 2008 Land Rover SUV on West Colfax at Interstate 25 around 10:45 p.m. when, a witness told police, a suspect standing next to the passenger side of a dark four-door Honda fired a gun six times into the Range Rover before driving away. Cabriales suffered at least one gunshot to the head and was rushed to Denver … [Read more...] about 14-year-old boy charged with murder in shooting of woman in her SUV on Denver’s West Colfax Avenue

Reward upped for info on teenage couple killed on Valentine’s Day 21 years ago
On Valentine’s Day 21 years ago, two teenagers were shot and killed inside a Littleton Subway, and the killer was never caught. Metro Denver Crime Stoppers is now offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the cold case slayings of 15-year-old Nicholas Kunselman and his girlfriend, 16-year-old Stephanie Hart-Grizzell . The teenagers were killed on Feb. 14, 2000, as Nicholas finished his shift at Subway and as Stephanie waited for him to finish up. Their bodies were found behind the counter just before 1 a.m., when an employee drove past the restaurant, noticed the lights were on and went to investigate. After the killing, Stephanie’s mother, Kelly Grizzell, claimed that the owner of the Subway shop allowed drug dealing to go on in the back of the shop, and suggested that may have led to the double homicide. Authorities mounted an extensive investigation — the killing of the two Columbine High School students came less than a year after the … [Read more...] about Reward upped for info on teenage couple killed on Valentine’s Day 21 years ago

Authorities, including longtime investigators, held a news conference Wednesday afternoon about the recent arrest of a Colorado man suspected in the deaths of two young women, whose bodies were found near Breckenridge, in 1982. Alan Lee Phillips, 70, of Clear Creek County, was arrested Feb. 24 for the deaths of Annette Schnee, 21, and Barbara “Bobbi Jo” Oberholtzer, 29, according to investigators. Phillips is being held on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of kidnapping, said Park County Sheriff Tom McGraw. The two women worked in Breckenridge and were believed to be hitchhiking home, separately, when they were both abducted and shot on Jan. 6, 1982.
