9 a.m. B117 variant may have been in U.S. before it was identified in the U.K.: Research by biologist Michael Worobey of the University of Arizona found the highly-transmissible coronavirus variant known as B117 was circulating in California and elsewhere in the U.S. for nearly two months before scientists found it in Britain on Dec. 29.
