SPRINGFIELD -- State Trial Court officials sent a memo this week to all employees at the Roderick L. Ireland courthouse on State Street, raising a flag about longstanding environmental concerns that could be a threat to workers' health. "Your health and welfare are of paramount concern," reads the memo, sent to hundreds of employees on Thursday. Courthouse sources also told The Republican that employees were encouraged in a staff meeting to undergo blood tests for elevated levels of mercury and lead. A spokeswoman for the Trial Court has yet to respond to a request for comment. The memo -- from officials in the facilities management and human resources departments of the state court system -- says environmental concerns have been "raised over a period of years." The memo is not specific about what those issues may be, nor who may have raised them.
