CULTURE & ARTS 12/30/2018 09:16 am ET A glimpse of the suburban grotesque, featuring Russian mobsters, Fox News rage addicts, a caged man in a sex dungeon, and Dick Cheney. Lauren Hough On Assignment For HuffPost I can’t tell you about a specific day as a cable tech. I can’t tell you my first customer was a cat hoarder. I can tell you the details, sure. That I smeared Vicks on my lip to try to cover the stench of rugs and walls and upholstery soaked in cat piss. That I wore booties, not to protect the carpets from the mud on my boots but to keep the cat piss off my soles. I can tell you the problem with her cable service was that her cats chewed through the wiring. That I had to move a mummified cat behind the television to replace the jumper. That ammonia seeped into the polyester fibers of my itchy blue uniform, clung to the sweat in my hair. That the smell stuck to me through the next job. But what was the next job? This is the stuff I can’t … [Read more...] about I Was A Cable Guy. I Saw The Worst Of America.
I need to lose weight where do i start
HUFFPOST PERSONAL 02/13/2019 09:00 am ET Updated 35 minutes ago By Dina Zirlott, Guest Writer Warning: Details in this story could be triggering to some readers. I was raped when I was 17 years old. I had a baby when I was 18 years old. My baby died when I was 19 years old. I cannot recall the color of the sky when I woke up the morning I was raped, or what I did in the hours leading up to the assault. I think of it in terms of Before and After, and I’m caught right in between the two. Instead, I remember this: a boy from school who I thought was a friend. I invited him over to my house for a movie. His hand skimmed up my leg. When I asked him to stop, all he said was, “I don’t want to.” I thought if I got up it would diffuse the tension and surely he wouldn’t follow me in my own house. I went to the kitchen to get some water. I remember this: Him pressing up behind me against the kitchen counter, knocking the breath out of me. His … [Read more...] about I Wish I’d Had A ‘Late-Term Abortion’ Instead Of Having My Daughter

It’s Wednesday morning. My boyfriend’s mom is walking around the house, humming to herself, and my puppy is waiting for her to leave, sitting patiently by the door. I’m also waiting for her to leave, just like I waited for my own mother to leave three days ago. And, after she leaves, I’ll wait for my boyfriend to leave for work so that I can finally sit in silence for the first time since Friday. Story Continued Below I’m a relatively solitary person. I normally live alone. I work from home most days. And before I adopted a border terrier from the Humane Society last Monday, I could go days in a row before touching another living, breathing thing. But that’s not my life now because I have cancer. It’s in my left breast and perhaps in other areas of my body too: my arm pit, my shoulder, maybe even my femur. I found out last Friday at the vet, as my new hound, Lily, squealed during her rabies shot and my mom waited in the sitting area. The … [Read more...] about I’m Coping With Cancer by Reporting On It
