Brad Marchand is no stranger to controversy, with the Boston Bruins winger receiving six suspensions and four fines from the NHL over the course of his nine years in the league. For Marchand, riding the fine line between getting under the opposing team's skin and going too far is something that he deals with regularly -- and is something that he explained in his Players' Tribune piece posted Thursday afternoon. Riling up skaters has always come naturally to Marchand, who spent most of his youth causing havoc with his cousins and his younger brother, Jeff, who he called "the original pest." "My mom likes to say that I came out of the womb 'mischievous,'" Marchand said. "I just liked the feeling of messing with other kids. I liked getting under their skin and making them react." He might be one of the elite wingers in the league now, but Marchand noted in his article that he needed an edge growing up to help him stand out in a crowded field of youth hockey talent up in Canada. Hall of Fame football coach Marv Levy tells Briar Glen students to ‘never give up’
[Bill Ackerman - For Shaw Media]Before his presentation to students, Levy said he had watched the Cubs fall to the Detroit Tigers in the 1945 World Series. The Tigers won the series four games to three, and the Cubs didn't play a World Series game again until 2016. "I was in the service, and World War II had just ended," Levy said. "I was home on furlough, and I was able to get tickets to the seventh game." The publisher of "Go Cubs Go! Baseball's Never Give Up Story" knew Levy was a lifelong Cubs fan. "He asked me if I would like to write the text for a children's book," Levy said. "There's another man, George Castle, who wrote the history of the Cubs in terms that children would get. I wrote it from an emotional standpoint." As a lifelong Cubs fan, he was excited to see the Cubs capture the World Series title in 2016. "People in Chicago have been such loyal fans," Levy said. "It was gratifying." … [Read more...] about Hall of Fame football coach Marv Levy tells Briar Glen students to ‘never give up’
Francisco Lindor homers in Indians’ win in Puerto Rico: ‘This is where I grew up. These are my people. It’s extremely special.’
A home run, at his homecoming.Say this for Francisco Lindor: He clearly has a flair for the dramatic.Playing as a big leaguer in his native Puerto Rico for the first time, Lindor connected on a two-run home run to open the scoring and help spark the Cleveland Indians to a 6-1 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. And yes, the moment was just as the All-Star shortstop imagined."I love the Cleveland Indians fans. I love them. They're supporters, big-time," Lindor said. "But this is where I grew up. These are my people. It's extremely special."He seemed to skip around the bases, crossed home plate and threw his arms into the air, enticing the already-screaming crowd to go even louder. They obliged, and eventually Lindor emerged from the dugout for a curtain call — in what technically was a road game, no less. The Indians were the visitors in this one.No matter. Lindor seemed more at home than anyone else."Our goal was to win, but it was pretty cool to see Frankie come … [Read more...] about Francisco Lindor homers in Indians’ win in Puerto Rico: ‘This is where I grew up. Georgia WR Chigbu may give up final year due to injuries
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Georgia wide receiver Michael Chigbu may give up his final year of eligibility due to undisclosed injuries.Coach Kirby Smart said Thursday that Chigbu, who has missed recent spring practice sessions, hasn't made a decision about his future."He's going through some injury things and I don't know yet what he's doing," Smart said. "He may be thinking about hanging it up, but he has not decided yet."Chigbu, who would be a senior in 2018, had nine catches in 12 games, including six starts, in 2016. He had no catches in six games last season but still contributed as a blocker. If Chigbu took a medical disqualification, he would remain on scholarship but would not count toward the team's NCAA limit of 85 in 2018.Meanwhile, Smart said sophomore Chris Barnes has moved from the offensive line to defensive line. A lack of depth on the defensive front could open a clearer path to playing time for Barnes, even though Smart said "he's still learning where to line up." "I'll … [Read more...] about Georgia WR Chigbu may give up final year due to injuries
