The 13th named storm of the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane system is some 1,400 miles away from Philadelphia as of this morning, but weather watchers say the newly minted hurricane could bring flooding to New Jersey by the start of the weekend. It's now Tropical Storm Michael. Will it be Hurricane Michael soon? The National Hurricane Center is tracking the newly upgraded tropical storm on Sunday that is forecast to take a path toward the northern Gulf Coast. The hurricane center upgraded the system to Tropical Storm Michael as of 11:55 a.m. CDT., saying that satellite wind data showed the system's winds had increased to 40 mph. An Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft is also on its way to investigate Michael. Michael could make landfall anywhere from Alabama to Florida's Big Bend as soon as Wednesday as a Category 1 hurricane. "There is an increasing risk of dangerous storm surge, rainfall, and wind impacts over portions of the northern Gulf Coast by mid-week, although it is too soon to specify the exact location and magnitude of these impacts," the hurricane center said Sunday. The National Hurricane Center is tracking a tropical depression on Sunday that could become Hurricane Michael and take a path toward the northern Gulf Coast. The hurricane center upgraded the system to Tropical Depression Fourteen on Sunday morning and said it could make landfall anywhere from Alabama to Florida's Big Bend as soon as Wednesday as a Category 1 hurricane.
