Beloved Black Bear At Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary Dies
FOLSOM (CBS13) – A beloved 25-year-old black bear that has been with the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary since 2003 has died. The zoo sanctuary said the bear, named Marty, arrived there after being injured in the wild. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife brought Marty to the zoo with a companion named Woody. Family sues ex-Rocky Ford cop, former chief and city in on-duty police shooting death
The family of a Rocky Ford man killed by a police officer now wants the city and the department’s former chief to pay for hiring James Ashby and for failing to discipline him. Jack Jacquez’s mother, Viola B. Jacquez , and the mothers of his three children filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against Ashby, former Chief Frank Gallegos and the city of Rocky Ford. The lawsuit claims Jack Jacquez’s constitutional protections against wrongful searches and seizures were violated because Ashby stopped the 27-year-old for no legitimate reason and then followed Jacquez into his home where he was fatally shot in the back in front of his mother. “This is a case about a police department that hires ‘ second-chance cop s’ without any vetting,” the lawsuit says. “It is about a police department that gave a badge to one such officer, yet failed to provide him with any training regarding excessive force, including deadly force. There will be fewer limits on restaurants, retail stores, sporting events, theaters, religious services, and senior centers. Health officials say this is possible because infection rates continue to drop, and vaccination rates are climbing.
