A new nursing education program at Kent State University aims to increase the number of nurses with baccalaureate degrees entering the workforce every year, addressing a shortage of nurses in the field.The program will be in partnership with University Hospitals. According to a news release, University Hospitals will support cohorts of students through the UH Nursing Scholars program. Kathleen Norman, spokeswoman for the College of Nursing, in an email said there will be a total of 80 students in each cohort. Through the program, 20 of those students in each cohort can receive $12,000 in financial support for their senior years, contingent on employment with University Hospitals for at least two years after graduation. Castleton University to take over hospitality program this fall
KILLINGTON, Vt. (AP) Vermont's Castleton University is going to take over the Killington School of Resort Management from a college that is going out of business. For the past 18 years, Green Mountain College has worked with the Killington and Pico ski areas on a three-year bachelor's degree program in the fields of hospitality and business. Green Mountain College, of Poultney, is ceasing operations at the end of the current school year. The Rutland Herald reports the hospitality program was started in 2001 and directed by GMC professor of business and economics Frank Pauzé. Castleton, which is a part of the Vermont State College System, decided to keep the program alive. OPINION: USC should consider a hospitality program
Yasmin Davis/Daily Trojan Before its renaming, most students had no idea that the USC Hotel was owned and operated by the University. While the name change is primarily a cosmetic fix for the auxiliary hotel operation, it serves an important purpose: raising awareness of USC’s involvement in the hospitality industry. In 2015 and 2017, USC’s hotel management team won multiple awards from the international Radisson group for its guest satisfaction and performance rates, illustrating its prowess as a successful, well-run venue. Beyond the hotel, USC Hospitality operates over 30 dining locations between the University Park and Health Sciences campuses and has over 900 staff members, making it one of the largest employers at the University. With such robust hospitality offerings, USC now has a unique opportunity to expand in a field it has explored little of. Niagara University hospitality program marks 50th anniversary
Niagara University's College of Hospitality and Tourism Management will mark its 50th anniversary next week by hosting an international conference and dedicating a refurbished residence hall for students studying event management. A two-story building formerly called Varsity Village No. 2 is now the Statler Foundation Hospitality House. Its rededication is set for noon Friday. From Wednesday through Friday, the university will be the host of the International Society of Travel and Tourism Educators Conference in conjunction with Niagara County Community College's Culinary Institute. The group will hold its awards dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the DoubleTree Hotel in Niagara Falls, emceed by WKBW-TV news anchor Keith Radford.
