LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Working from home could be one of the pandemic practices that’s here to stay. A new survey from USC and the California Emerging Technology Fund explored Californians feelings about remote work, remote learning and telehealth after more than a year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. 113 Boat Migrants Land in Britain on Tuesday, as Figures Reveal Less Than One Per Cent Face Prosecution
Over 100 illegal migrants reached Britain by boat on Tuesday, as figures from the Home Office revealed that less than one per cent of illegal aliens have been prosecuted over the past five years. The migrant crisis in the English Channel shows no signs of abating, as seven boats carrying 113 illegals were brought to land at the Port of Dover on Tuesday. A further four boats carrying 72 people being stopped by French authorities, the BBC’s Simon Jones reported . So far this year, over 1,500 migrants have been recorded to have reached British shores. Theoretically, if crossings continue as they have, the year could be on pace to see 25,000 migrants cross the Channel from France illegally, three times as many reached in the year before the UK officially left the European Union. People in some Stanislaus and Merced counties are being warned if their water comes from groundwater wells, it could be contaminated with harmful amounts of nitrate. Some have already been buying bottles for years, to avoid getting sick. “I don’t want to be sick,” Salida homeowner Jose Olagues said. “So I prefer just buying water to drink.” At his Salida home with a water fountain flowing in his front yard, Jose Olagues can’t drink from the faucet in his own home. “This is what I do, every day,” Olagues said. Bottled water keeps him from becoming sick. “Maybe when I drink, something’s inside my stomach — for my family too — not too good,” Olagues said. Vandals Smear Chauvin Defense Witness’ Former Santa Rosa Home With Animal Blood
SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) — The former Santa Rosa home of Barry Brodd, who testified as a defense witness in the Derek Chauvin murder trial, was smeared with animal blood and had a severed pig’s head dumped on the front porch in an early Saturday morning vandalism attack. Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, is currently on trial facing murder charges in the death of George Floyd. Santa Rosa police said officers responded at 3:07 a.m. to a residence in a west Santa Rosa neighborhood that had just been vandalized. The victim called police after they were awakened by a group of suspects — all dressed in black — who threw a pig’s head on their front porch and splattered blood on the front of their house and then fled.
