Adam Regan and Adam Fisher Fort Myers News-Press Published 6:14 PM EST Dec 14, 2018 A week after Florida crowned its 2018 state champions, the Florida High School Athletic Association turned the page on this season and announced new district assignments Friday that will change the landscape of Southwest Florida football for the next two years. The new classifications based solely on student enrollment and districts based on geography created significant changes within the area with a number of schools shifting into districts with traditional rivals. "It's a new challenge with a lot of old twists," longtime Fort Myers High School coach Sam Sirianni Jr. said. The most notable change came in Class 6A where the most Lee and Collier county programs are housed. Since that announcement, virtually nothing has taken place in the plaza on Naples Boulevard in front of Hollywood 20. What's the holdup? The local franchisees of the fast-casual restaurant chain expect Newk’s to make its Southwest Florida debut by the end of the year on Naples Boulevard in North Naples. “We are opening in December there,” Rebecca Fuller said. “We should have three restaurants open by the end of 2019 in the Fort Myers-Naples area. Grace Speas Special to The News-Press Published 1:36 p.m. UTC Jul 10, 2018 The fast-casual restaurant Hibachi of Japan started with three locations in Naples and is slowly spreading across Southwest Florida. In April, Hibachi of Japan's fourth store opened in North Fort Myers in the Publix-anchored Orange Grove Center at 4085 Hancock Bridge Parkway. Another location is planned to open near Florida Gulf Coast University this winter. The menu features cooked and raw sushi rolls along with hibachi-grilled meat and vegetable entrees. The restaurants don't hire groups of chefs performing flame-filled tricks and table-side entertainment. The chain's owners competes with hibachi lounges in another way — low prices. A specialty cocktail at an upscale hibachi restaurant is about the same price as a $7.95 entree of teriyaki chicken at Hibachi of Japan, owner Mike Yang said.
