Brody Lonion laughs as his mother Ashley Ply joins stepbrother Kaden Ply jumping from the old bridge that spans Cow Bayou near the boat launch beneath the Texas 87 bridge. Ashley Ply said jumping off the old bridge into the bayou is a long tradition for kids in the area. "And especially now with places closed due to COVID-19, it's one of the only places kids have to swim" during hot summer days, she says. Ply remembers many days spent with friends when she was a teen making the over 20-foot jump, but it took some prodding from her sons to join them now. "I used to do this all the time when I was 16," she says, peering over the edge of the bridge to the water below. "Wow, this is really high!" She didn't remember it looking that high when she was a teen, she said. Eventually, the boys' pleas for her to join them in just one jump, and promises of a back massage and manicure, won her over, and the three made the jump together.
