Adam Duvernay Delaware News Journal Published 7:48 AM EST Feb 18, 2019 Warming your car on frigid mornings can be an invitation to thieves, especially if you leave your car unattended. Dozens of cars left idling have been stolen in the past few weeks in Wilmington and parts of New Castle County, in what police are calling an epidemic. At least 33 idling cars were stolen in Wilmington over the past month, accounting for about 75 percent of all cars thefts, said Wilmington police spokesman David Karas. "We view these as preventable vehicle thefts, and strongly encourage drivers to do their part to help prevent vehicle theft," said Wilmington police spokesman David Karas. The thieves don't appear to be targeting any single neighborhood. "It's a crime of opportunity," said Wilmington Police Capt. Wilfredo Campos. Tyler J Davis Des Moines Register Published 10:11 PM EST Jan 23, 2019 It didn't take long for Timothy John Jones to return Tuesday after being kicked out of a Des Moines homeless shelter. Just minutes after leaving the building, he returned in a stolen pickup truck, driving it up the curb and crashing it through a window. He's been charged with first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree theft and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Prior to stealing the vehicle, the 59-year-old was accused of causing a disturbance at Central Iowa Shelter and Service at about 6 p.m Tuesday. Staffers there forced him to leave, court records show. An off-duty Des Moines police officer in the building said Jones left the shelter at 1420 Mulberry St. without much of an issue. But he was angry, police said. Jones walked up the road to the QuikTrip just blocks away, at 1421 Ingersoll Ave. There, a red pickup truck was sitting in the parking lot, running but unattended. ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – It is something you might not think about unless it happens to you. However, hit-and-run crashes in Rochester are something of a daily occurrence. Chi Quach discovered damage to her brand new SUV in October when she arrived at work following a doctor’s appointment. There was more than $2,500 in damage to the rear passenger-side door. “I just say, ‘Oh my gosh.’ That’s it, and then I went straight back,” Quach said. Security cameras at the clinic couldn’t pick up enough detail to catch the responsible vehicle. Quach filed a police report and got in touch with her insurance. “Certainly, it’s a daily occurrence where we’re taking hit-and-run type reports,” explained Captain John Sherwin with the Rochester Police Department. Rochester police say between October 1st, 2017 and October 1st, 2018, there were 326 property damage hit and run reports.
