With State Mandate Lifted, IL Colleges Split On COVID Vaccine Rules

July 15, 2022 by patch.com Leave a Comment

27 Schools While many schools were quick to confirm that they would continue to require vaccines, others will not mandate it or have yet to decide. Anna Bybee-Schier , Patch Staff Posted Replies ILLINOIS — Universities across Illinois are taking a variety of approaches to coronavirus vaccination after the state announced this week that vaccines would no longer be mandated for college students and employees. "As we continue to move toward living with this virus, my administration will relax some requirements while continuing to protect the most vulnerable and ensuring we can get every federal dollar our residents are eligible to receive," Gov. JB Pritzker said in a news release Wednesday. While vaccine requirements are over for universities, K-12 school personnel must still get vaccinated or test weekly. Northwestern, Loyola, Columbia and Roosevelt universities all plan to move forward with a vaccine mandate, the … [Read more...] about With State Mandate Lifted, IL Colleges Split On COVID Vaccine Rules

I experienced the festival opulence of the $2,000 Outside Lands VIP pass

August 8, 2022 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

Anyone who has ever been to a music festival knows that using the bathroom is an annoying chore at best, and at worst, a test of how long you can hold your breath and bladder. However, on Saturday afternoon at Outside Lands , armed with my Golden Gate Club wristband, that experience was “elevated.” Instead of waiting to exhale, I breathe deeply as I cleanse my hands in the spacious lavatory trailer with mid-tier designer soap (Public Goods, if you must know). Then I spritzed myself with a facial mist that smelled like fresh sheets from a boutique hotel. A wristband that allows entry to this luxurious bathroom, as well as a host of other perks including front of stage access, costs $1,995 for one day, plus fees (general admission is $175). I was given media access to this exclusive wonderland in order to experience the grandeur, and report back to you, the reader who is likely spending that amount of money on a month’s pandemic-reduced rent in a one-bedroom San Francisco … [Read more...] about I experienced the festival opulence of the $2,000 Outside Lands VIP pass

David Giuliani , Patch Staff Posted | Updated Replies HINSDALE, IL – Hinsdale has spent $1.5 million fighting fair housing lawsuits filed by the federal government and a sober living house. A year later, the U.S. Department of Justice sued the village, making similar allegations . The village confirmed its legal costs this week. 0 This post was contributed by a community member. The views expressed here are the author's own. Kids & Family Women are 3.5 times more likely to outlive men and become widowed. Couples can take key steps to avoid being unprepared. Chris Varones , Neighbor Posted Reply No one is ever ready for the death of a spouse and, oftentimes, surviving spouses find themselves unprepared. As a continuation of its recent study "Women and Financial Wellness: Beyond the Bottom Line," Merrill Lynch conducted research in partnership with Age Wave on widowhood. The study found that 78 percent of the 20 million US widows/widowers are women. That means that women are 3.5 times more likely to become widowed. Steven Lopez , a Senior Vice President and Wealth Management Advisor for Merrill Lynch, answers several questions related to the survey. Why was this study conducted? Longevity needs to be a factor in everyone's financial planning, but … [Read more...] about Widowhood: The Loss Couples Rarely Plan for But Should

(CNN) — Kevin Spacey will have to pay almost $31 million to Media Rights Capital, the production company behind “House of Cards,” a judge has ruled. The actor starred in the Netflix series for five seasons before he was fired in 2017. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mel Red Recana made the ruling earlier this week, confirming an award that had been decided by an arbitrator last year. CNN has obtained the court documents. Two prominent men died on Titanic – were they secretly a couple?

August 7, 2022 by www.sfgate.com Leave a Comment

Let's be clear up front: No one knows for sure whether Archibald Butt and Francis Davis Millet were in a romantic relationship. In the times and society in which they lived, for such a thing to become known would have meant ruin. Here's what we do know. Butt never married. Millet was estranged from his wife and had a previous relationship with a man. Butt and Millet lived together in a mansion in Washington's tony Georgetown neighborhood, where they threw parties for the city's elite - including Butt's boss, President William Howard Taft. And in the weeks before they died on the Titanic, they were vacationing together in Europe. "The enduring partnership of Butt and Millet was an early case of 'Don't ask, don't tell,' " historian Richard Davenport-Hines wrote in 2012, referring to the policy that once required gay members of the military to keep their sexuality secret. A National Park Service page for the White House memorial fountain in their honor says they were "widely … [Read more...] about Two prominent men died on Titanic – were they secretly a couple?

Renter's insurance is an important safety net. Having a policy can save you from big expenses—and even bigger headaches—if disaster strikes your rental. But what are those disasters, exactly? Does renter's insurance cover everything? Whether you are signing up for the first time or you have had a renter's insurance policy for years, here’s what you need to know about your coverage: Your landlord’s insurance Many renters assume they don’t need their own insurance because they do not own the building they live in, but that thinking could cost you. “Your landlord’s insurance should cover losses to the structure that you are renting, but not your personal items,” said Troy Thompson , an insurance agent with Pinnacle Insurance Agency in Coon Rapids, MN. So, if you do not have renter's insurance and disaster strikes your apartment, you will have to pay to replace all of your belongings that are damaged or destroyed. To hear more audio stories from publications like The New York Times, download Audm for iPhone or Android . Since last summer, a start-up in beta mode has been soliciting volunteers to take part in 55-minute sessions called “gathers,” where strangers discuss their deepest hopes and fears. The fledgling company, Peoplehood, is led by the entrepreneurs Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice, who combined sweat and spirituality in their last venture, the high-end fitness chain SoulCycle. So far nearly a thousand people have taken part, Ms. Cutler and Ms. Rice said. On a recent night I was one of about 20 volunteers who logged on to a remote session moderated by Shamicka Jones , an actress, dancer and model who, in Peoplehood-speak, is a “superconnector.” Wearing a sweatshirt with “PPLHD” across the front, Ms. Jones had an infectiously upbeat presence. After leading us through a series of breathing exercises, she introduced the topic of the day: uncertainty. Before … [Read more...] about SoulCycle Without the Bike: Here Comes Peoplehood
