Curt Hogg Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Published 4:23 PM EST Nov 14, 2018 A trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night saved Jared Schneider’s leg. It was Sept. 24, 2015, although the clock could have turned to Sept. 25 by the time Schneider cracked the door of his bedroom and walked down the hallway. Schneider, just a couple of weeks into his freshman year at Homestead High School at the time, couldn’t sleep. His left leg was swollen and throbbing in pain. As the night wore on, his grimacing turned to tears of agony. Earlier that evening, Schneider, now a standout senior running back on the Highlanders team that will compete in the Division 2 state championship against Brookfield Central on Friday, had taken the brunt of a Port Washington player’s helmet to his left thigh on a routine kickoff. He thought nothing of the soreness and played through it, but his leg continued to tighten up as the game progressed. By the fourth quarter, there was no … [Read more...] about WIAA state football: Homestead’s Jared Schneider nearly lost his leg

Angelique S. Chengelis The Detroit News Published 12:09 AM EDT Sep 26, 2018 Ann Arbor — When starting Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson had to leave the season opener at Notre Dame because of leg cramps, redshirt freshman Dylan McCaffrey took over the offense and made the transition look easy. McCaffrey is the Wolverines’ backup quarterback and has played in three of four games this season. He is 8-of-15 for 126 yards and two touchdowns. “Anyone is going to be nervous going into a game, but it’s a matter of getting that first play done,” McCaffrey said Tuesday night of entering the Notre Dame game late. “Once you get that first play I was like, ‘All right. You can breathe a little and have fun with it.’ It’s been a while since I’ve played in a game.” He had been preparing for that moment and for the playing time he has received this season since he arrived at Michigan. Lynn Henning The Detroit News Published 1:33 p.m. UTC Sep 2, 2018 New York — What exactly the Yankees were expecting this weekend at their home ballpark is easily answered. A romp against one of the worst teams in baseball, the Tigers of Detroit. That's because almost everyone expected it, at least this side of the Tigers, who have managed to harass and irritate one of baseball's elite teams, as happened again Saturday before Detroit lost another tight one to its Bronx hosts, 2-1. BOX SCORE: Yankees 2, Tigers 1 "Every single game, we've been in it," said Nick Castellanos after the Tigers and Yankees had teamed on another tight one where numbers leaned toward the unusual, if not weird. As examples: The Yankees got two hits on the day — two — but scored twice, thanks to one of those hits being a two-run homer in the fifth from Gleyber Torres. The Tigers got nine hits but managed only one run, in the first inning on three singles and … [Read more...] about Tigers’ Norris dazzles in return before exiting with leg cramp in loss
