Lorraine Kelly bursts into tears after daughter Rosie surprises her with Mother’s Day message from Laos

LORRAINE Kelly burst into tears on today's show after receiving a Mother's Day message from her daughter. The telly favourite teared up as she got the video from Rosie, who is currently working in Singapore but appeared to be enjoying a holiday in Laos. Rosie, 23, said: "Happy Mother's Day mum, sending you lots of love from Laos. "I hope Angus gives you lots of cuddles, mwah." Lorraine cried: "That’s so nice! How did you get her to do that?" "Oh, I’ve gone completely. It was just seeing her wee face, that was so nice. I miss her!" The show's stylist Mark Heyes had to reach across and hold her hand as she cried. Just before the video message from Rosie, Mark had surprised Lorraine with pyjamas printed with pictures of her beloved dog Angus. Opening a box, Lorraine laughed: "No, no, it’s too good! That is so cute. "That is my son, obviously. Did he order it by himself? That’s not in any way bonkers, I love that so much.” Most Read in TV & ShowbizSOAR POINT EastEnders' Sid Owen thrown off flight in seat row as passenger shouts 'Rickaay' 'total fake' Married At First Sight fans accuse Ben of using Steph for fame NEW LIFELINE? A Peaceful Mother’s Day

How many of us have spent the run-up to Mother’s Day debating whether to choose the fattening chocolate, or maybe just a card, or the flowers that will die versus the plant that will live? And feeling uneasy, somehow knowing we are being “sold” something, we still give in to the guilt and consumer pressure, because we all have our mother issues! I was surprised to learn that when poet and social activist Julia Ward Howe, sickened by the carnage of the Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War, wrote the official Mother’s Day proclamation in 1870, she called on the women of the world to unite for peace. Her “Mother’s Day Proclamation” planted the seed for what would eventually become a national holiday. When we at Brave New Foundation contemplated those stirring words–largely forgotten in today’s consumer culture–it became clear that the time was right to put together a piece highlighting Julia Ward Howe’s original Mother’s Day proclamation–and inspire people to do something really meaningful on Mother’s Day to promote peace and heal the victims of war. Once we got started, the project came together quickly. Reaching out to some of the wonderful activists in Los Angeles, women who could bring the stirring proclamation to life, we were extremely fortunate to have mothers–Vanessa Williams, Felicity Huffman, Christine Lahti, Alfre Woodward, author Fatma Saleh and Ashraf Salimian–who agreed to donate their time and talents to give voice to Julia Ward Howe’s stirring words. Gloria Steinem, who happened to be visiting our offices recently to brainstorm about ways to use the short-form video, added historical perspective about Julia Ward Howe and the pacifist roots of Mother’s Day. It was important to us, in making this video, to provide a concrete and creative action for our audience, so we went in search of an organization that was doing work with victims of the Continue Reading

Justin Timberlake calls wife Jessica Biel a ‘MILF’ in Mother’s Day Instagram post

One hot momma! Justin Timberlake didn’t hold much back while posting a photo of his wife Jessica Biel holding their son Silas. The “Sexy Back” singer captioned the Mother’s Day photo, “M.I.L.F. ‘Happy Mother’s Day to all the crack hoes out there’: Florida prosecutor sparks outrage over rude Facebook rants

A Florida prosecutor said a controversial message he posted to his Facebook account wishing “all the crack hoes” a happy Mother’s Day was just his way of inspiring women to make better choices. But Assistant State Attorney Kenneth Lewis’ rude comment was just the latest in a series of hate-fueled rants — including supportive messages to the banned Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling — that have sparked outrage throughout Orange County. “Happy Mothers day (sic) to all the crack hoes out there,” the May 11 post read, according to WKMG-TV. “It’s never too late to tie your tubes, clean up your life and make a difference to someone out there that deserves a better life.” The note came just weeks after the apparent bigot posted an attack on U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonya Sotomayor. “Reason enough why no country should ever engage in the practice of Affirmative Action again,” read the caption above a picture of Sotomayor posted to Lewis’ account. “This could be the result. Where would she be if she didn’t hit the quote lottery? Here’s a hint: ‘Would you like to supersize that sir?’” A string of other comments posted to his page, some dating back more than a year ago, included criticism of Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush. He even argued at one point that a 19-year-old arrested breaking into someone’s home should have been shot in the head and “executed on the spot.” Orange-Osceola State Attorney Jeff Ashton said knew of Lewis’ comments on his personal profile page, but it didn’t appear his office — which has no policy governing social media use — would do anything about it. “I have been made aware of certain statements attributed to Assistant State Attorney Continue Reading

NY Giants Osi Umenyiora renews Twitter war with Philadelphia Eagles LeSean McCoy by wishing him a Happy Mother’s Day

Osi Umenyiora swore he’d never forgive LeSean McCoy. Apparently he meant it. The Giants defensive end took a swipe at the Eagles running back on Sunday when he sent him this message via Twitter: That was the latest shot in a feud between the two that started last spring when McCoy ripped Umenyiora during his contract dispute with the Giants. McCoy tweeted that Umenyiora was “Overrated n soft 3rd best d-line on his team honestly.”Lady Gaga,” a “woman” and “a little girl” in an interview with the Daily News. He also said McCoy would “get what he deserves” because “What he did was unforgivable. He ran his mouth,” Umenyiora said last spring. “He crossed the line that shouldn’t have been crossed.” Umenyiora also called McCoy a “Twitter gangster” for crossing that line the way he did. But Twitter was Umenyiora’s weapon of choice Sunday. When former Giant Brandon Jacobs responded to Umenyiora’s shot at McCoy by tweeting “omg hahaha,” Umenyiora responded “hahaha u know the beef is never over. Never.” As for McCoy, his only apparent response to Umenyiora via Twitter was brief: “Lol. let the beef begin.” SIGN ’EM UP: Two rookie free agents — WR Brandon Collins (Southeastern Louisiana) and LB Jake Muasau (Georgia State) — signed with the Giants on Sunday. Osi Umenyiora apologizes for the ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ tweet the NY Giants DE directed at Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy

Osi Umenyiora has apologized for offending women with his "Happy Mother's Day" tweet to Eagles running back LeSean McCoy. The Giants defensive end delivered that apology via Twitter on Thursday morning, apparently from overseas. It was a response to an article on ESPN's website that was critical of the way he insulted his rival by calling him a woman. "Replace 'woman" with race, religion or sexual orientation and the reaction would be far different," wrote ESPN's Sarah Spain. "Just imagine the response from media and fans if Umenyiora had tweeted McCoy 'Happy Gay Pride Day.'" Said Umenyiora: "@SarahSpain is absolutely correct in her article. I wasnt thinking about it from that perspective. I apologize to any woman offended. It won't happen again." Umenyiora - who said on Twitter that he is currently in Germany, which is why he missed the Giants' Super Bowl ring ceremony on Wednesday night - has insulted McCoy several times in the past year by referring to him as a woman. After McCoy used Twitter last spring to call Umenyiora "Overrated n soft 3rd best d-line on his team honestly," Umenyiora responded by calling McCoy "Lady Gaga," a "little girl" and "a woman." Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy | Corey Sipkin/New York Daily News Then on Sunday, he surprised everyone by Tweeting an unprompted message to McCoy that said "Happy Mothers Day Lesean Mccoy! Enjoy your special day!!" One person on Twitter responded to Umenyiora's apology and told him it was "unfortunate" that people can't just make a joke these days. Umenyiora, to his credit, didn't use his attempt at humor as an excuse. "You have to look at things from other people's perspective sometimes," he responded. "A joke to me and you might actually offend others." Spain, via Twitter, told Umenyiora it was "so fantastic of you to actually read the piece and really think about the issue." Responded Umenyiora: "I always try and look at things from someone else's perspective when it's Continue Reading

A Mother’s Day message

Letter to the editor: Kind and thoughtful words are usually spoken only after a person passes. Mothers, all too often, never get to hear those kind words or the expression of love and appreciation someone has for them. After a person is gone, it’s too late to let them know of the impact they have had on your life or of the love you have for them in your heart. My mother was born in 1919 and died in 2011. The hands of her clock stopped turning, and she finally found the much deserved rest from her toils and the promised peace for her soul. If there was ever a woman who deserved to be cuddled into God’s warm embrace, it was her.I never told her all the things I’m sure she would have liked to have heard. Time goes by way too fast, and we often get so caught up in ourselves that we don’t acknowledge the most important people.Don’t let time take control of the unspoken words. Say the words in your heart while that person can still hear them.I long for the opportunity to put my arms around my mother again and say: Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!Walter Reynolds; Pace, Fla.
